I've got a feeling Opie. It's gonna be this week.

You know, I was looking at LSN today, and I started to think maybe it would be next week. Last year there were no mid January decisions. LSN is a pretty small sample for Drake though, but the year before the decisions were around the 21st, which would mean probably next Monday. Ugh.. I just want my damn scholarship.

Lol I love that. People kept asking me if I had gotten my acceptance/rejection from Drake yet. I kept wanting to tell them that I wasn't interested in my acceptance or denial, but rather how much money I'd get once I got in. It may be cocky, but it's not like I was worried about getting into Drake with my numbers.

Also, I had to laugh about 10th Street Lofts. Get this (if you're bored and have nothing better to do).


I was recommended to check them out by a different place in Des Moines that I wouldn't qualify for (low income). I went online and found the site called apartmentratings.com. I instantly knew I wouldn't bother looking into them any further.

• The earliest few reviews were all pretty negative with a response from the property saying they had hired completely new management.
  
  There were then 5 reviews posted within 24 hours (all with identical syntax) going on about how amazing the place is. They were obviously called out for being phony, and "anonymous" posters responded to all 5 replies claiming to be tennants.
  
  A new review was posted pointing out the fake reviews with a response from "anonymous" denying it.
  
  5 more obviously fake reviews (sounding identical and only complimentary without any negatives) posted over the next few months.
  
  Another review citing examples of how terrible the manager is. 2 "anonymous" responses defending the manager saying, "If I was the manager, I would've done the same!"
  
  A new positive review complimenting the place and criticizing the negative reviewers.
  
  Another negative review with a snarky response from an "anonymous" tennant.

Then, I had to post my thoughts. I noted that such behavior by a manager was pretty sketchy and pushed me away right off the bat. I basically just warned future people to look at all of the reviews. The response I got?

"Like we give a s##t. We're at nearly full capacity anyway, and we don't need some jerkoff like you here to begin with. If I found out who you are, I'd tell you "no vacancy." Sunny" (the manager)

Amazing! I know those places. Never been in, but I almost ended up running the porn shop around the corner. That's a pretty shady place. The homeless in that area are really thick. Probably not a good loft.

Last time I was unemployed, I interviewed to be the general manager there. I got the job offer, but had already accepted elsewhere. Sounded like fun though. You get an expense account to go to strip clubs!

Unfortunately, none of that is close to Drake. Cabs are really cheap in Des Moines though.

As dumb as it sounds, this is a benefit of Drake for me. Growing up in Iowa City with the UG population, I didn't even consider the University for UG and fell in love with Drake. I'm sure there is still partying, but I would imagine it is a bit more distanced from the school than Iowa.

And the closer you get to your acceptance/denial information, the longer it feels like it takes. Lol once they told me my decision was being sent in the mail, it felt like the longest 4 days of my life.

I can't remember, because at the time I didn't know that the banner disappearing was significant. I feel like it was a short time though. Maybe a few days? Not more than a few weeks.

I had my decision date of 12/15/11. The banner across the top stated "Thank you for your interest in Drake Law School! A decision has been rendered on your application and a letter will be mailed within two business days. Per our policy we do not provide decisions over the phone or via email."

There is partying at Drake, but not very much. There are only like 5 bars within walking distance, and I would argue that only like 2-3 of those are student friendly. The others are where you go to buy coke if you've got a LOT of street cred (read: visible gunshot scars and are on the basketball team).

Drake is NOT a party school. It (at least the UG school) has a rep for being where rich parents send their kids to keep them out of trouble. What partying there is tends to be Frat/Sorority related and those are all on one street just off campus on the opposite side from the law school.

Since there is a big pharmacy school there and the education school is noteworthy too, a lot of the students at Drake are grad level. They're pretty serious about their education, and are mostly pretty grown-up.

And I seriously hope they render a decision by tomorrow. I can't take this crap.

Ahh.. Okay. I knew that you found something out by other than mail.

Drake is a pretty decent atmosphere. It reminds me of all of the people you went to high school with that were vaguely friends with the popular kids, but didn't play in the popularity contest. Those are the people that go to Drake.

I think you'll really like it there. There's something for everyone, but overall most students are pretty much straight shooters.
