I submitted all my apps the same day last month and Columbia put me under review the soonest. They sent me an e-mail about it. I did not check other status checkers yet. Anyone else have the same experience?

I was responding to this: "It's probably worth an ED app. Both of you guys will probably get stuck on the waitlist, but if apps fall again this year and Columbia needs to work to maintain medians you could get in. Doesn't look like they've gone with GPAs that low since 2007-2008:"jim-green wrote:Why is this good?vincanity1 wrote:2007-2008 happens to be the year that had roughly the same number of June LSAT's administered, so there's still hope
More test takers ---> More applicants = Generally higher admissions standards
I can lay it out in an economics framework if that helps you understand the relationship better.

Wow, such a huge difference. Understood, so 2007 had fewer test takers. But curious. What is an economics framework?vincanity1 wrote:More test takers ---> More applicants = Generally higher admissions standards. I can lay it out in an economics framework if that helps you understand the relationship better.

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I just meant that I think it's easier to understand using the basic macroeconomic model of labor supply/labor demand. e.g. As the supply of labor (the number of people willing to work) drops, firms will raise wages to retain laborers as they are now more valuable. Applied to our case, applicants would take the role of the laborers and law schools would be the employers. Rather than raising wages, law schools will be forced to reach deeper into the pile for candidates and hopefully offer some more cash money.jim-green wrote:Understood, so 2007 had fewer test takers. If you were just being facetious by asking the question to begin with, I hope I wasted enough of your time reading this. Also, I formally apologize to all of TLS for analogizing something with macroeconomic theory

Haha, this helped. This is stuff I remember now from high school economics, but have forgotten long ago.vincanity1 wrote:I just meant that I think it's easier to understand using the basic macroeconomic model of labor supply/labor demand. e.g. As the supply of labor (the number of people willing to work) drops, firms will raise wages to retain laborers as they are now more valuable. Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I'm considering ED-ing to Columbia.
I took a year off in college. Columbia App asks its applicant to indicate whether his/her academic year has been interrupted for any reason.
But it does not require you to explain why. And I'm wondering if I should write an addendum.
Does Columbia prefer its applicant to write an addendum explaining why he/she took a year off?

After you get the Complete e-mail, do you get another that says Under Review, or does the Complete e-mail mean that it is UR?

My email said it will be sent to the committee and evaluated in the order in which it was completed. No clue if that means we'll get an under-review notification.jim-green wrote:After you get the Complete e-mail, do you get another that says Under Review, or does the Complete e-mail mean that it is UR?

On the apps I'm familiar with, this question is posed in the "education" section.JamMasterJ wrote:double check the C&F section. Maybe their's doesn'tbpatient3 wrote:Really? almost positive that they don't do UR. It's complete ---> decision. And furthermore, it stayed "complete" long after I got my decision in the mail. CLS not super tech savvy with the admissions.Killingly wrote:My email said it will be sent to the committee and evaluated in the order in which it was completed. I know for a fact they don't start reviewing applications until November, so even if they will update to Under Review, it'll take a while.Hawkeye Pierce wrote:It says:lblelalr wrote:for those of you guys who are complete does your status checker say "complete" or "completion pending"?
