Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
I really enjoyed the vibe on the campus. Everyone was really upbeat and seemed to be wiling to help their fellow students out. THe law building is nice, and its located near the carrier dome. THe library is nice- and good sized. The law librarians are very helpful and undestanding. The professors seem to care about the students, and let them know whats important and not. They cold call people, and dont let gunners try to take over the class. All of the students, especially the 2L and the 3L's are glad they went there, and feel pretty confident about their prospects. They would however wish that the tuition wasnt so high. There are a lot of clinics available, and its easy to pick up another degree from any other graduate program ( All you have to do is submit some paperwork, and you are in at no extra cost to you) The common areas are nice, but not as nice as pittsburgh. Most of the students hang out with each other on the weekends, and they are willing to share study notes and help out if you ask them for it. The offices are located in a central location, and Career Development seems willing to work hard with you- if you work hard. I really liked it, and after sleeping on this decision- i am really torn between pitt and su. It will come down to which school will cost the least amount to make the final decision.
As for financial aid- they told me that they should be posting it on myslice this week- or next week at the latest.

I felt the same way. Also spoke to a few students about whether they knew what caused the huge drop in the rankings. Few students told me it had to do with dismal bar passage rates last year, which they insisted were a fluke. The school has responded by creating a Bar prep program, tightening admission standards (allegedly this was the hardest year to apply to Syracuse) and reducing class size. All this and the new law school (which we won't use) will hopefully help out.northwood wrote:I really enjoyed the vibe on the campus. Students also seemed positive about job prospects. The expansive Syracuse alumni network was emphasized as a good starting place to find jobs.
I was very pleased with what I saw at Syracuse on Friday. I'm definitely going to do a dual enrollment with the Maxwell School (#1 in the country!) for an MPA, since it fits well with my career path.

dude, wtf? I bet if you applied pre-new rankings you would have been an auto admit, they're probably more number weary now that they've dropped to 100

Neither did I, and 0 in grants. My total reward is nowhere near covering me for the cost of tution and living. As much as I wouldn't want to take out that much in loans anyway, I certainly don't have the money stashed away somewhere! What gives Syracuse?StillHerexxx wrote:I received my financial aid stuff today. Did not get very much in federal loans.

We still can apply for Federal Graduate PLUS Loans. Allegedly covers up to the full price of attendance.....orachelo wrote:Wow, my fin aid package is pathetic...StillHerexxx wrote:I received my financial aid stuff today. Did not get very much in federal loans.

8k in grants, 8k in subsidized loan, 12k unsubsidized, and some work study....overall they're only offering me 31k in loans/grants, rest I'd need to get from direct plus....fuck that. They're definitely reinforcing my decision to take a year off.
retake.
retake.

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
I applied back in late January and was told I was missing materials in February (my tax forms/financial). I haven't heard anything since then, can I find out on MySlice if my app is in review? Do they need all my Financial Aid info in order to accept/deny me? This was the only school that asked me for all that extra information

Re: Syracuse 2011 applicants
I'd call the admissions office. I know though that mySlice doesn't list admissions info, only financial aid info. I applied for financial aid after I was accepted since the deadline for financial aid app. was 2/15. That may have changed.LaProfe14 wrote:I applied back in late January and was told I was missing materials in February (my tax forms/financial). I plan to by the end of the week. Coming up with 500 for it is the tricky part.
