I sent in my application and got an email confirmation that it was received 12/10 but have yet to go complete. Has anyone who submitted in December gone complete yet? Should I be worried that my Dean's certificate went missing in the mail?

It took a few weeks usually, and you have the holidays to deal with too. I would wait for 2 more weeks before worrying.

I submitted 12/3 and just got my application complete email today, so wait another week or two. I had the same worries about the dean's certificate, and all for nothing.

They only email you if you are complete I think, so if your dean's cert(s) are not there, they wouldn't send you a confirmation. I would call/email since its been over 2 months.

Yes, definitely call. Or email if you prefer. They're pretty quick repliers.

I've been avoiding mine for the past couple of days.

I think I might just start over (again!). I keep hoping that every time I open up the document, I will have sleep-written it and it will be brilliant.

I rewrote mine 6-7 times with different topics, perspectives, etc...horribly stressful

I'm in the same boat, received 11/29 and still waiting, I called them and all they said is to wait some more...does anyone knowom if emailing is better? And if so, which email address? I tried one and it sent back an automated message

For those keeping score (namely, uh, me)...

YLS's Twitter update at the beginning of Winter Break said, "The Admissions Office will close today for the winter break. We'll be back the first week of January with more good news." If I'm not unclear on the calendar, the first week of January has now passed with no update. However, this is exactly in keeping with last year, when there was an LSN reported admit without a tweet. (No reported admit on LSN as yet, but as mentioned earlier, that may be due to later reporting — i.e. someone gets in now but doesn't actually make that information available until months from now.) Last year, the Twitter update that happy calls were coming came on Tuesday of this week.

This suggests to me that there will be a small amount of activity this week and continuing through the month, with the first mass of rejections in about two weeks.

For any December applicants (like myself), I was browsing through LSN data and noticed that we will more than likely hear back mid-February at the earliest. March is most likely.

Apparently, Asha is all caught up with the JD apps. I suppose this means that if you've already gone complete, your application has already been decided on or sent on to faculty review (or both). Yikes!

Their argument is basically: if you would have gotten in applying in October, you will get in applying in February.

This probably means you have to wait a lot longer for a decision unfortunately.

What I want to know is - if you couldn't get in applying in Feb. would you have a better shot applying in Oct? (probably not)

They seem to swear on their lives that if you apply by the deadline, you will go through the same process regardless, and the class doesn't even get close to full until the beginning of April. I imagine that they wouldn't repeat it so many times if they didn't think that it's true, and it would be hard to demonstrate otherwise.

One that I assumed but didn't know for sure until I read this was...
"There is no correlation between when you are admitted and whether you were a presumptive admit or read by faculty (I really don't see why this would make any difference once you are admitted, but anyway). Both I and the members of the faculty are reading files from early fall into April. So, it's entirely possible for an application to make it through a round of three faculty readers by December, just as it is possible for me to admit someone directly in the spring (it would be kind of odd, wouldn't it, if a must-have applicant applied on February 15 and I had no choice but to send the person to the faculty gamble?). In fact, I believe two years ago the very very very last file I read was a presumptive admit. Again: your chances of admission remain the same regardless of when you apply."

One thing I take from that is that faculty review takes however long it takes. Could be December, could be April. This explains some of the randomness in when people hear back. She also says elsewhere that most admissions decisions are made in March, and if I had to bet, I'd bet that she encourages the faculty to turn their stack of apps back in by the beginning of March (which would explain the small jump of reported acceptances on LSN: 5 over the weekend of 3/6-3/7, the largest two-day period outside of the 12/21-12/22 jump right before Winter Break). Hence the trickle between now and then (presumably presumptive admits combined with the lucky ones whose faculty reviews finish earlier) and then, well, if not a flood, a larger trickle.

By the way, how much do you love the fact that she reads TLS and responds to individual posters on her blog? Watch what you say!

Not that it could realistically happen, but what if 400 must-haves apply in chronological order, and they can only admit 300?

I think they are working on the experience that they will NEVER encounter more must-haves than they have spaces for. So if you are a must-have, you will get admitted, the rest goes through the faculty review process more or less at the same time, and they usually don't have enough 12's to fill the class, so the remaining will be viewed together and offered seats together.

So while it practically is a rolling process, their standard is so high that if you are good enough you will always get a seat.
