Called asking about switching to ED, but they told me that my app (10/28 submitted) was already under review by the committee. Still trying to switch to ED anyhow.

Re: NYU 2011
If I'm still processing as of 10/15 (RD), is it because my LOR didn't get sent with my first LSAC report? I just checked my LSAC account and they sent an updated report to NYU on 11/2.

Re: NYU 2011

Hey! I didn't want to make a new thread for this, but I wanted to remind everyone to either create or update their LSN/Admissions Dean profiles. It's a little break from checking status checkers obsessively, and it's easier to get all the dates correct now rather than going back at the end and trying to remember. LSN has been such an immense help to me (and I'm sure all of you, as well) so I'd like to make sure we're giving the next cycles our useful information.
Also, if you're concerned about privacy (I am!) you can keep your information private while the cycle is ongoing. I am keeping my profile on "hidden" throughout the cycle but updating it regularly, then once I've made final decisions, I'll open it up.
Anddd, I'm posting this in all the waiting threads, so don't get annoyed if you see it more than once.

me! submitted 10/31, got the email 11/8, and now I'm under review too. I wonder how long it'll take to hear back (I've been UR at Berkeley for like a month and don't see an end in sight)nymario wrote:Is there anyone else who was in the 11/8 batch (original batch) of Status Checker receipts who started off as Processing, but got switched today (or at any other time?)nymario wrote:Submitted 11/1 ED, was Processing til today, now Under Review 11/11

Re: NYU 2011
I applied on 9/28. I got my status checker on 11/9 and it said I was still processing. I called over to admissions just to confirm that they got my snail mailed ED contract which they had. Everyone's posts about going complete has me concerned. Should I be or does it just take this long to process the file? I checked LSAC to make sure everything was sent and according to my file it was.....
This whole process has put me on edge. Should I just chill out?

Yes! We all love to speculate, myself included, but the truth is that none of us really know if going under review quickly means anything. It's all guesswork.I applied on 9/28. Re: NYU 2011
I saw a little discussion earlier in the thread about applications being reviewed out of order and figured this might help clear some things up:
"Our deadline is February 1. We employ a “rolling notification” process not a rolling admission process. This means applications are reviewed in the order they are completed, but decisions are not made in the same order. Ours is a thoughtful, comparative process and it takes time for us to read applications and make decisions. The earlier a candidate applies, the earlier she might receive a decision. All applicants completed by the deadline will hear if they are admitted, denied or wait listed by mid-to late-April. For some reason, quite a large number of applicants wait until the week of the deadline to apply. While that will not negatively impact our decision, those candidates will likely not hear from us until later in our cycle."

Re: NYU 2011
Here's another bit of information:
Seems to indicate that going under review quickly could either be a really good thing or a really bad thing. Also have to wonder how whether you are ED or RD affects the whole process.
If you want to confirm where I got this quote, you can find it here: http://blogs.law.yale.edu/blogs/admissi ... ether.aspxNYU: Top law schools use different admissions models. All of these processes require careful reading by experienced people. Our model is more administrative in nature than the ones that Dean Rangappa and Dean Deal reference. Part of the reason is that we have a very large applicant pool. While there is a faculty admissions committee that oversees the process and policies, the core of the review process has been delegated by the faculty to admissions professionals. We review applications in the order that they become complete, but we do not necessarily make final decisions in that order. This means that we are often able to make decisions on the strongest and weakest applications relatively quickly- sometimes within a few weeks of completion. However, many applications must necessarily be held to compare against the larger applicant pool. The sooner one applies, the sooner the candidate MIGHT hear from us. All applications received by our deadline receive a decision by late April. We urge applicants to submit their materials as early as possible to avoid delays. Unfortunately, a significant number of applicants wait until the last minute to apply and those usually experience the longest wait to hear from us.

obviously none of us has any solid facts buuut I went under review at NYU 2 days after I went complete. I'm not the worst applicant ever, but I'm not the best either , so I'm particularly curious if anyone has insight into how exactly they take the applications from the complete 'pile' to the review one.
If it's truly in the order in which the applications go complete, shouldn't the speed of that transition mean nothing? or do you think kleinrock & co. sorts through the applications for auto-admits/rejects (whose selection, I guess, would be based purely on #s), reviews those, and then turns to the apps that remain? I guess he kind of answers this in his response, but kind of not really (or I'm illiterate)
or could NYU be like berkeley, where everyone is under review forever?

Re: NYU 2011
I dunno but you may be right that they sort them based on auto admits and auto rejects to review those first. Might make sense since i'm in the hazy middle ground and I've been "processing" since September..

Re: NYU 2011
Does NYU have a "Complete. Ready for Review." status? Or is it just processing -> Under Review?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
