Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
Anyone want to trade LOCIs, or is anyone who already sent theirs interested in looking mine over (I'll return a favor sometime!)? I should be finished soon and need to mail it on Monday--living abroad so it'll take ages. It's my first LOCI so I'm not sure I'm on the right track.

Finished my LOCI (and my tax returns) yesterday, which means this is technically the first time since September that I have NO pending law school things on my to-do list. Wahoo!

Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
Im starting to wonder if being held is a good thing.
I submitted in November, didnt hear anything until January (hold notice)... no interview yet.
Either they love giving me false hope or they are lining me up for a JR1... I'm hoping a lot of this is due to admissions officers, other than JR, who have been reviewing the apps. Someone said on a thread that a lot of the immediate admits are personally reviewed by him.
Anyway I have no clue. I'm just sick of waiting and being left in the dark.

In past years, have most 'held' applicants been WL'ed? Do you expect 'held' + URM movement more likely to be in Feb or later?[/quote]RednBlack wrote:There is some baseless TLS speculation that we will see some movement on "holds" after the Feb. 1 deadline passes. They will then have their entire applicant pool and can begin to reassess our applications.
This is the key question. Does anyone know? Has anyone put in the time on LSN to figure this out?

The large majority of held applicants get WLed. I claimed that 25% eventually got accepted, but I think that might've been a bit generous. I think the number is probably like 15%. It's hard to tell, though, as some of the flat "acceptances" could've been held -> acceptances and some of the WL -> acceptances could've been held -> WL -> acceptances. A lot of the people don't specifically write that they were held (like me, for instance). So I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage was 20-25%.
In addition, holds have never gone out on quite the same scale as they are this year except for one other year (2008). So I think that's notable as well. It would almost seem like HLS would have to accept more of the holdees than usual due to the volume of them this year. But that's just speculation.

No, actually. I was just kidding. An acceptance is doubtful, although I got held before I sent in updated transcripts and a LOCI, and I had probably my most impressive five month period these last five. So we'll see.GargamelITT wrote:well played. have you had JR1?VoidSix wrote:February 2nd (A little known poster with the handle "VoidSix")GargamelITT wrote:anyone care to speculate on when the first hold --> admit will be?

solid numbers. i'm not sure why you say an acceptance is doubtful; a good number at or even below you numerically have gotten in

Eh, straight from undergrad. Graduated in December, and didn't have time to get any impressive work experience until the last few months. We'll see.GargamelITT wrote:solid numbers. i'm not sure why you say an acceptance is doubtful; a good number at or even below you numerically have gotten in

With some reference to the amount of held applicants, Im trying to figure out if HLS has a propensity to score-average or take highest LSAT score. Anyone notice a trend this year so far?VoidSix wrote:In addition, holds have never gone out on quite the same scale as they are this year except for one other year (2008). I just realized I made a fairly egregious language mistake in my LOCI. Happy to clear a potential spot for the rest of you.

would it be completely crass to mention my acceptance to yale? i can see it having either a positive or negative effect. a big part of me says don't because they're likely to say to themselves, well, if that's how she wants to be about it, let her go to yale then. thoughts? tx

Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
You can look up samples on Google. I didn't do that though, I just wrote a letter in the fashion that I thought would be most flattering to me. It was just a one page, single-spaced letter on what I have been doing for the last five months with updates on grades, a note that I was including an extra LOR, etc.wackadoodle wrote:Can anyone give some advice on what a standard LOCI looks like?
