I doubt we will hear anything today or tomorrow. All of the admissions staff will be busy with the admitted students days (4/16-17). This will probably drag into next week, which is unbelievable.

Please hang in there. For my daughter, it was always in UR1 from early January and in a span of two days this month, sudddenly two URs happened, and she got her decision.mec896 wrote:Just want to say how incredibly annoyed I am going to be no matter what the outcome if my file is never reviewed. So I will be in New York for a couple days next week for a Columbia ASD. I was really hoping to hear from NYU by then so I could pay them a visit too. No movement since UR1 2/11. Worth calling them to check in with them? Let them know I'll be in town?

Bahah, my mom would literally be lost if I told her I had a UR1 from NYU.

just did this.tincan678 wrote:Has anyone looked into whether the number of students admitted so far this cycle matches up with LSN data from this time last year? I'm wondering if we're all destined or WL /Rejection or if there might be some very late acceptances going out.
this cycle so far: 257 admits, 46 have already withdrawn
last cycle: 321 admits, 131 of which withdrew
it doesn't look great for us, although it does seem like there might be decent movement from the waitlist? idk what to believe anymore.

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Why doesn't it look good? There is a 20% difference, which is huge. Does the number of accepts from last cycle include WL - Accept or just accept? Also, did you count the withdraws up to a certain date, like today, or total, which includes end of April and May?mccllln2 wrote:just did this.tincan678 wrote:Has anyone looked into whether the number of students admitted so far this cycle matches up with LSN data from this time last year? also i'm hoping that the fact that 170+ law school applicants are down a few percentage points will help us towards the end of this cycle. stay optimistic!

I counted again, but now separating people who withdrew before today and after today.mccllln2 wrote:just did this.tincan678 wrote:Has anyone looked into whether the number of students admitted so far this cycle matches up with LSN data from this time last year? This Cycle: 257 admits, 46 have already withdrawn by now.
Last Cycle: 321 admits, 52 withdrew before today last year, 79 withdrew after today last year.
So, as you see, the number of withdraws is pretty much the same, but the number of acceptances is way lower. So, they are either planning to cut their class size by roughly 20%, or accept more people from the WL. Unless they think they can get a 20% increase in the matriculation rate.

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
thanks i couldn't figure out how separate the withdrawals by date, and i thought my numbers included WL - Admits, but I was mistaken. i highly doubt they're banking on a huge increase in matriculation rate, or cutting their class size that much with their BL + Clerkship #s up this year. i take back my pessimism.Comma.Split wrote:I counted again, but now separating people who withdrew before today and after today.mccllln2 wrote:just did this.tincan678 wrote:Has anyone looked into whether the number of students admitted so far this cycle matches up with LSN data from this time last year? Debating whether or not to send an LOCI. I feel like I'd have a great chance to get off the WL, and I don't want my LOCI to get lost in this last minute rush.

It also seems like they're just slower in the process than last year, judging by all the UR1s. Could be something internal that has caused them to become delayed?Comma.Split wrote:I counted again, but now separating people who withdrew before today and after today.mccllln2 wrote:just did this.tincan678 wrote:Has anyone looked into whether the number of students admitted so far this cycle matches up with LSN data from this time last year? Thx. This keeps me optimistic. I hope there's another wave of admits before ding/WL. It says online that entering class is roughly 450. Is this including transfers? Even if we say they're accepting 100ish transfers, it leaves us with 350. Given that roughly 46 withdrew by today, that leaves us with 139 open spots for admissions (of course, given that TLS numbers reflect real numbers) Don't law schools usually admit as close to their class size and keep a big WL? Either way, based on those numbers alone, it looks like they have to admit more people before ding/WL. *knock on wood*

i don't think these numbers include transfers, wouldn't that only start after 1L? unfortunately there's also no way that every admit is putting their info on lsn, as much as we wish they would, which means there's less than 139 slots left. that being said the lsn numbers from last cycle to this cycle are encouraging.greenapples wrote:Thx. Again, the NYU waitlist last year seemed to have a decent amount of movement

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
First off, transfers come in after 1L as 2Ls. So, they shouldn't be included here. Second, deferred students are included, but there are usually 5-10 of them. Third, fewer than 50% of all applicants register with LSN (there are many more accepted people than 257). But most importantly, NYU doesn't accept just 453 students, they accept close to 2,000 hoping to get a class of 453.mccllln2 wrote:i don't think these numbers include transfers, wouldn't that only start after 1L? unfortunately there's also no way that every admit is putting their info on lsn, as much as we wish they would, which means there's less than 139 slots left. that being said the lsn numbers from last cycle to this cycle are encouraging.
So to sum up, we don't know what percentage of all applicants report on LSN, so we are just assuming some consistency thought years. Based on that assumption, it seems that this year NYU accepted 20% fewer people with the same number of people withdrawing (around 50). This could mean a few things:
a) This year 20% fewer applicants registered with LSN, so our assumption is dead wrong.
b) NYU is behind on acceptances, there will be more.
c) NYU is cutting class size by 15-20%
d) NYU is afraid to lose medians, so they are playing it safe (accept everyone at/above medians, WL the rest so you can cut the class size if need be).
e) Some combination of the above options.
f) They lost 20% of our applications in a horrific restroom flood.

just out of curiousity, where did you get that 2000 acceptances number? is that general TLS wisdom for a t14 school or is that information available somewhere?Comma.Split wrote:First off, transfers come in after 1L as 2Ls. Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Well, that number is based on the school's yield rate (percent of admitted students who matriculated). For NYU it is 24% (453*100/24 = 1887 admitted students). I got the yield rate from NYU's Wiki page, but you can also find it on LSN and a few other websites. I would guess that they report it to LSAC or ABA (yield is used in usnews rankings).mccllln2 wrote:just out of curiousity, where did you get that 2000 acceptances number? is that general TLS wisdom for a t14 school or is that information available somewhere?Comma.Split wrote:First off, transfers come in after 1L as 2Ls.
