Group interview invite tonight.

Got mine, too. Any idea what that means? Other than the obvious (that is, that there's a group interview. Haven't read the earlier parts of this thread, soooooooo maybe I'm that douche who doesn't read earlier posts.

GT is my dream school but I knew it was near impossible for me to get in given my 3.2gpa, 156 LSAT, and submitting my app last month. Somehow got put on the regular waitlist though. All though I'm still holding out hope just a tiny bit I am pretending its a rejection and making plans for Washington & Lee. Good luck to everyone on the various waitlists!!! Peace

167/3.77 But I also feel that I have a lot of "soft" qualities and made it clear to my interviewer that I was extremely interested in GULC

lots of us in this boat. doesnt sound like too many have gone through it. not sure if its a good thing or bad but it sounds lke group = yp whereas alum = boarderline? i find that hard to believe.

YP = yield protect. When a school rejects/waitlists/otherwise does not accept an applicant w/ great numbers for that school because they don't expect that applicant to actually attend.

I can't comment on what a group interview invite "means" at this point. I did one back in the fall before I even applied. I was not invited, but rather heard about it through my undergrad's law school advisor. All I had to do was email admissions and ask for a spot when they were in my area.

The interview isn't something you should stress about or anything you could prepare for at all. The only part that was about "me" was when we were each asked to introduce ourselves and say where we go/went to undergrad and if not in undergrad, where we worked. We were then split into groups and given a simulated problem/task to work out a strategy for. Dean Cornblatt basically just observed how we interacted and addressed the problem, and then each group had to briefly present their results/decision. Then he passed around applications of some real past applicants (names removed, of course) and asked us to make a case for which one we thought should be admitted and why (this was individual). Finally, we were given some hypothetical applicants who had various issues with their applications (C&F type stuff) and had to make an argument for how much it should affect the admissions decision.

The only advice I would give is that he didn't give us much time at all to read the hypothetical situations in that last part and I was caught off guard when he called on me first for the first one and I hadn't finished reading it yet! After that I just knew to read the other ones as quickly as possible.

Oh Great so I am above both their 75 LSAT and gpa
So I thought I had a really a good shot but now you are saying because of that I wont get in.
And other schools where I am below the 75 percentile ( where I would love to get in) I don't have a good chance of getting in.
So there are no safeties with yp.
This is just getting more stressful!

I don't really know about how much Georgetown yield protects. I was well above both of their 75ths, and got accepted in the first round. I think you're pretty safe, in that regard.

Haha, you sound like me a few months ago. Generally speaking, the way to combat a YP waitlist or ding is to express to the school that you are actually interested in attending that specific school for specific reasons. You can do this in your initial application with a school specific personal statement or answering one of their optional essays with a "this is why I think your school would be a good fit for me" sort of response. If you have great numbers for the school and are actually interested in attending (as it sounds like we both are/have), making the school aware of this sincere interest is critical in shifting their attitude from "this kid will never actually come here, so forget him/her" to "we can actually get this kid and he/she has numbers that we would kill for, so let's roll out the red carpet." After you've already submitted, your only option might be an LOCI or something of that sort, but that is only advisable after you've received a waitlist or some other actual response. My completely unprofessional advice is to just hang tight. =

I'm a bit below their medians and I got invited for a group int. If not a YP, what would that mean?

As much as I'd like to think of myself as YP material, I'm definitely not with my pseudo-splitting numbers (170/3.58). I have WE and average softs, but I'm not thinking I'm YP at GULC. Just gonna try to impress and hope for some $$.
