I tried calling USC Law Financial Aid to ask for an update, but it looks like they are out on Spring Break. Has anyone heard about scholarship information yet?

Interesting...I called this morning and talked to both Admissions and Financial Aid. I was told that some scholarship offers would be going out at the end of this week.

Interesting...I called this morning and talked to both Admissions and Financial Aid. I was told that some scholarship offers would be going out at the end of this week.

The disorganization is killing me. I got this email Sunday night after asking when USC would mail scholarship awards:

"Dear XXXX,

I believe scholarship letters were mailed out late last week.

Thank you,

Office of Admissions

Well I guess my real question is, can you use scholarships that no longer apply in order to leverage $ at USC? Will they know that you missed the deposit deadline for other schools?

For instance, school X offers you $60k, but their deposit deadline is April 7th. Let's say USC gives out scholly info April 7th. Can you then, not having put a deposit down for school X and thus indicating your disinterest, say "Hey USC, X gave me $60k, will you up your offer?" Would USC be able to tell that you didn't put your deposit down and think, "Well we know USC is your only option at this point"? Because if they can see that you are inevitably going to submit your SIR at USC, you don't have more leverage by waiting to SIR than just doing it when all your other acceptances' deposit deadlines are past.

But yeah I do see your point, its not a good idea to sumbit your SIR prematurely, it's not like they can revoke your admission if you wait. (You do however get to start looking for housing and getting your life in order, not to mention peace of mind.)

I know that some schools have an April 1st deadline, while others are in mid-April, so this is a valid point. What you have to do is to send the USC admissions office your competing offers NOW, rather than wait for them to make the first offer. Let USC know that you have X scholarship offer from School A, the deadline is on 4/7 or whatever, you would love to go to USC, but financial considerations will play a role in your decision.

Chances are, USC will try to get you a financial aid offer before the deadline at your other school. The worst thing they can do is offer you nothing, which is what they have offered so far. If you wait until after the seat deposit deadline at the other schools to try and use that as leverage it would probably fail. So send your competing offers now while they are still in effect.

Per the Admissions person I talked to this morning, Admissions isn't really involved in the Scholarship decisions. All information is coming out of the Financial Aid office, and the contact person is Mary Bingham.

i would really just like to make a decision now since i have heard back from everywhere else incl. scholarship offers and not knowing whether im gonna be admitted + financial aid is killing me. i get the feeling we are going to find out really late and IF we get in we probably wont even get $ since it took them so long to even decide on us.

I share your concerns. As much as the bunch of us would love to attend USC, an acceptance would be pointless if it came with a big fat scholarship in the sum of ZERO dollars. FWIW, USC, I love you, but debt is real. Debt is very real.

i would attend with $0 scholarship... then again i won't be accepted so no need to worry. all about supply and demand i guess...

Yeah, I'm not counting on a scholarship. I would just like to know all of my options at this point so I can finalize my decision. I'm really dreading the possibility of being waitlisted because I don't want to be dragged along for much longer and I don't think my grades this quarter are going to be spectacular and help me get off of WLs... my GPA can only drop if I don't get straight A's and I'm in a class with an awful curve where the start of an A is a 96, an A- is a 95, and everything below that is a B+ and below.. Ah, I can't handle working out all these WLs and finals! I just want to slack off

Really? This would be unusual compared to other schools, where it seems like admissions are uniformly involved with merit scholarships. Need-based seems to be the thing that's up to the financial aid people. Are you just talking about need-based aid?

Whether or not admissions is involved, it seems insane for them to not know if/when scholarship decisions have been mailed. Obviously that has a massive impact on people accepting offers.
