Vibe that bad?
I've spent a lot of time on U of C's campus. It's not a "bad" vibe per say. It's just only a vibe that works for a particular set of people. To me, when I'm down there to visit friends (monthly occurrence) it just feels dead and tense. Campus is gorgeous, don't get me wrong, and I'm sure people get out and have fun (I've seen a few of them myself), but it feels much more like a newly discovered archeological site of a long-dead civilization than it does an active university. Though, that's probably what happens when your school prides itself on its intellectual "rigor" and "curiosity" and has no noticeable school spirit beyond the unity that comes from being emotionally and mentally depressed by masochistically picking a university that crushes you with endless coursework. The law school's location on campus is also less than desirable. However beautiful the building may be, it doesn't really make up for the fact that it's on the edge of campus and has an ugly surrounding.
Those are just my $0.02. My friends on the other hand were really into their seemingly endless coursework and loved to bond by one-upping each other regarding how "miserable" they were. That just didn't really mesh well with me. I'm sure the law school is somewhat different, but let's not pretend that law school is known to be a less than rigorous environment.
