Is there a separate admitted students thread? Just curious because I had questions about the ASW that is coming up.

Okay, good to know other people are wondering the same thing. It would only be a positive to write one, right? Can't really think of any negatives if I send one in. I got into UChicago, which is comparable to Columbia, and I'm wondering what's holding me back.ldlestrange wrote:I have one already drafted. Lol...I'm into Chicago but not Columbia and I definitely didn't previously think I was one of the weird ones...time to self-reflect?wheathins wrote:This is just my own unsubstantiated assessment but I saw many, many get into either Chicago or Columbia but not the other for some reason. I personally think the two schools have different philosophies/standards of judgment. Again, just my own opinion, but I think Chicago is pretty friendly to socially awkward geeks/nerds as long as you can prove your intellectual worth. Columbia? I don't think they're so kind to socially awkward/weird people. I got the feeling that they really want professional, mature, and warm-hearted lawyers. Just my own gut reaction......

Numbers explain the difference a lot better than this conjecture about adcoms selecting for personality types (lol).
Chicago likes high GPAs, and Columbia likes high LSATs.

See, this is what I thought too. But I'm in at Chicago, not Columbia, as a regular splitter.Kaziende wrote:Numbers explain the difference a lot better than this conjecture about adcoms selecting for personality types (lol).

There's a held at columbia thread from last year you can check outCatsinspace wrote:I'm sure this has been discussed, but do we have any consensus around the fate of 'hold' applicants? maybe from last year's thread? wondering if most end up just getting officially waitlisted...

I'm a splitter for Chicago but not for Columbia, but I'm in Chicago and not Columbia. Its weird.01panm wrote:See, this is what I thought too. Hopefully now that apps are closed, we'll see some more movement. Like big waves instead of the one off admittances.

No! My brethren.
This doesn't bode well for the rest of us in the nether realm

I'm sorry, but there is still a lot of hope, it's not a waitlist/reserve.
Did anyone find out % of people who get in off hold?

Anecdotally speaking, it doesn't bode well for us. Jump to page 5 for the slaughter.

Held just now. I have been expecting a WL all along, so this was actually a pleasant surprise even though I'll probably get WL anyway. On the bright side, anyone with my numbers on LSN has ended up in at Columbia from the WL. (Tiny sample size, though) So, I will hold out just the littlest bit of hope.

Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
I'd say you have a better chance as Columbia likes high LSATs and yours is quite a bit higher than mine. The letter def implied it's a better position than waitlist, but who knows, I chalk that up to being polite.Thelaw23 wrote:Assasindowntheavenue wrote:Got placed on Hold just now. Meh.

Either way, I never thought I'd go to Columbia unless I got some decent $, and seeing as that won't be the case, I'll be withdrawing. Good luck to you all, especially those whose #1 choice is CLS!
