Sorry if this has been asked before, but the Director of Admissions is requesting an interview with me scheduled for tomorrow (definitely short notice). But how has the interview been like for everyone? Casual? What questions should I prepare for?

If it's with Dean Faulk you stand a good chance of being admitted at the end of the interview if things go well. With Grace or Chris they usually* have to forward their assessment to the admissions committee for a decision.libby wrote:Sorry if this has been asked before, but the Director of Admissions is requesting an interview with me scheduled for tomorrow (definitely short notice). That is pretty unusual but maybe sending them updated materials means that when you went UR2 it was them updating your profile and going UR3 is really going UR2. I was under the impression that UR3 doesn't happen to everyone but essentially means decision rendered.captain-kriegy wrote:Nope, sent updated materials early February before i went UR2angelfan5589 wrote:captain-kriegy wrote:long time lurker, just made an account because UVA is torturing me---- UR3 with no interview request. haven't seen other cases of this happening..... inevitable waitlist?

Did it! It was so much fun! Slow pitch softballs are so much easier to hit super far than normal baseballsS.Picquery wrote:Nice. Don't go too heavy!SweetTort wrote:Gonna go buy a softball bat today and hit the batting cages!

Really? Are slow pitch softballs different? Maybe I'm crazy, but as a former varsity softball player, I can hit a baseball 2 or 3 times further than a softball....SweetTort wrote:Did it! I feel like UVA has a long wait time for a few reasons. 1, they interview everyone they are considering. 2, Their ED applications are open for a long time. 3, They don't have great yield so they really want to know who wants to attend. and 4, they enjoy torturing us. Looking at the C/O 2019 thread, there are some people who applied in September, October, and November who were waiting for answers till April.

You can definitely hit baseballs further than softballs, especially when they are pitched rather than tossed.Cbear2017 wrote:Really? Are slow pitch softballs different? But it's obvious easily hitting slow pitch balls

Maybe I just suck at hitting baseballs then. Idk, the softball was just easier to hit, so it ended up going super far.RParadela wrote:You can definitely hit baseballs further than softballs, especially when they are pitched rather than tossed.Cbear2017 wrote:Really? Been hopefully waiting since early January. In the meantime, my hopes for Duke and Cornell have been crushed and Virginia kinda ended up as a contender for my top choice as a result. C'mon UVA, I won't hurt your yield! Probably.angelfan5589 wrote:I feel like UVA has a long wait time for a few reasons. 1, they interview everyone they are considering. 2, Their ED applications are open for a long time. 3, They don't have great yield so they really want to know who wants to attend. and 4, they enjoy torturing us. Just got a notification that UVA sent me a package, but I won't be able to get to it for a few weeks. Anyone else?

Yeah so the physics alone indicates the baseball can go much farther (smaller/more dense + increased speed = less air resistance/more complete energy transfer = much farther), but if you can't hit a baseball, then a softball will definitely go further.RParadela wrote:You can definitely hit baseballs further than softballs, especially when they are pitched rather than tossed.Cbear2017 wrote:Really? Plus most 1Ls probably aren't fast-pitch softball players so you won't encounter too many issues.mrgstephe wrote:Yeah so the physics alone indicates the baseball can go much farther (smaller/more dense + increased speed = less air resistance/more complete energy transfer = much farther), but if you can't hit a baseball, then a softball will definitely go further.RParadela wrote:You can definitely hit baseballs further than softballs, especially when they are pitched rather than tossed.Cbear2017 wrote:Really? Re: UVA c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
And I can't imagine fast-pitch even being allowed - I'm pretty sure I've never seen a guy play fast-pitch (or anyone outside of women's college softball), and since it's coed, I imagine that will hold true. For slow-pitch, the trick is more placing your hits rather than just crushing the ball. IIRC, there's 10 fielders for slow-pitch (at least the leagues where I'm from), so crushing it deep outfield is typically just a flyball out.S.Picquery wrote: Plus most 1Ls probably aren't fast-pitch softball players so you won't encounter too many issues.

^ This. 100% which, to be fair, is fitting for lawyers-to-be.mrgstephe wrote:And I can't imagine fast-pitch even being allowed - I'm pretty sure I've never seen a guy play fast-pitch (or anyone outside of women's college softball), and since it's coed, I imagine that will hold true.
