Hi all! lurker here, first time poster. Figured it was time to stop mooching. I receive a Vanderbuilt via email today, so it seems like there must be more than one wave.
I'm also confused as to why NYU and Columbia have overlapping admitted students days. Right now, I'm leaning toward going to them separately rather than doing the marathon.

Thanks! I was admitted via a phone call 1/25. There was a wave of Vandys after that in early february so I figured I hadn't gotten one.tappatappatappa wrote:Congrats, that's awesome! Re: NYU c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
NYU (and some other T14s for that matter) seems to wait until like March to start sending out most waitlist notifications. My only guess would be they do that so that if you are right on the cusp of admit vs waitlist and they decide late they have a spot to admit you right then, they can do that instead of risking a lot of potentially good candidates immediately withdrawing once they get the waitlist notification.James.K.Polk wrote:I could complain all day about this, but it sort of boggles me, too. I suppose for a school, if you're looking at a fringe admit, it makes sense to have more candidates to consider... but then why even do rolling admissions?coldmonkey13 wrote:I'm genuinely curious what leads a school like NYU to take literally months to review an application. Like to be UR2 since November 17 is just absolutely nuts in my mind, like how can it possibly be that difficult to decide if someone is a good fit? My file is kind of unique but three months unique? Not really.

That would be the case for me if you could come off of the waitlist at any time...but, as far as I know, no schools make decisions off the waitlist until after seat deposits are due, so it doesn't really make a difference between finding out in November or March.coldmonkey13 wrote:Maybe I'm in the minority with this, but I would be 10000000% more likely to ride out a waitlist if I got it in November than March. At this point if I get a waitlist I'm far more likely to just withdraw.squirtlesquad14 wrote:NYU (and some other T14s for that matter) seems to wait until like March to start sending out most waitlist notifications. Rolling admissions is really a misnomer as it only applies to their top applicants, they want to accept tham as quickly as possible. Everyone else waits until they can see enough of the class to be sure they are giving spots to the best of the rest. This is the most advantageous system for the schools, and pre-acceptance the law schools hold all the power.

11/17 here too. Who knows? Maybe somebody dropped our files behind the desk and the janitor hasn't found them yet.

When I was interviewing for Columbia, I was definitely getting the vibe that NYU and Columbia are rivals and competing for the same students...I am in at Columbia but still waiting for NYU? Perhaps it is an unwarranted assumption but I somewhat assumed that if you are admitted at one, then you are at least competitive at the other school?

Just came here to post about itJames.K.Polk wrote:lol @ that email - anyone else get it?
"With this in mind, we hope you are reassured that the Committee is giving very careful consideration to your application. All applicants will receive a decision by the end of April, if not sooner. We thank you for your patience."
As someone with no movement since 12/8 I actually sort of appreciate knowing my application wasn't lost under a desk somewhere. But telling me I'll hear by the end of April is frusstraattiingggg. Especially when I was hoping to get to an ASW while I visited Columbia.

I didn't get any sort of relief from that email, in fact I'm probably even more annoyed. It's cool though NYU, take your time
