I am starting to think I should have written a why Notre Dame essay. I thought, foolishly apparently, that checking my religion would be enough to answer the question. I guess when I saw that "plus catholique que le pape" wasn't one of the choices, I should have written the essay.

So, for those of you that have gotten your acceptance packages, how do you feel about the scholarship dollars you've been awarded? I've heard that NDLS is being rather generous this year (probably because they're trying to raise one or both medians).
I'm above median but <75 on both and I'm trying to estimate what kind of money I can expect--if I get in, of course. I went complete on January 20th and my last date change was February 18th.

According to LSN, applicants between 50th and 75th percentiles for both are getting about 75k.

I was surprised a bit at the $120k offer, although that still leaves me with more debt than I necessarily want to have. I do not want to work in Biglaw and am heavily skeptical of borrowing, so the prospect of owing ~40K tuition, plus COL/fees/books is still looking undesirable. We'll see what happens. It would be an incredible experience, I'm sure. The Jackal wrote:So, for those of you that have gotten your acceptance packages, how do you feel about the scholarship dollars you've been awarded? This is where I ended up. Hoping that I can negotiate upwards because if not, unfortunately I won't be borrowing 75k+ to attend next fall.Bilka wrote:The Jackal wrote:So, for those of you that have gotten your acceptance packages, how do you feel about the scholarship dollars you've been awarded? I'm really disappointed with my package. I'm 25<LSAT>50 and GPA>75 and they gave me 30k.

It's insane how imperative the why ND is. It catches people off guard every cycle.jerrycallo wrote:How long has it taken people to hear back? I submitted 1/12 went complete 1/14 and had a date change 2/16. Im thinking its a ding because Im a splitter GPA=25th last>75th or because I didn't write the apparently mandatory "why ND"

Same boat. I submitted 1/5 went complete 1/8 and had 1 date change 2/2. I also wrote the why ND essay. I think we just have to wait it out....

I know this is just one anecdote so it doesn't mean much in the statistical scheme of things, but I did not write Why ND essay and I was admitted. Don't lose hope!irish921 wrote:It's insane how imperative the why ND is. It catches people off guard every cycle.jerrycallo wrote:How long has it taken people to hear back? Im the same here! One date change, 2/16 and nothing since. I didn't write a why ND statement and stats are just below both medians. I feel like for borderline applicants they will assess the recent applications from March 1st and then decide. Lets hope we all hear soon and get in

Status date just changed to 3/4/15 but there is no 1st deposit $ up. Does this normally mean a denial of admission?

No. The only time it would signal something other than an acceptance is if the deposit numbers were still zero after the status updated to "Decision Finalized".Harry_Pluxen wrote:Status date just changed to 3/4/15 but there is no 1st deposit $ up. Does this normally mean a denial of admission?
Best of luck.

Is this the same across all schools status checkers? Some schools specify that it is, most do not, however.Trojan18940 wrote:No. The only time it would signal something other than an acceptance is if the deposit numbers were still zero after the status updated to "Decision Finalized".Harry_Pluxen wrote:Status date just changed to 3/4/15 but there is no 1st deposit $ up. It's not the same across all schools. I dont know for how long, but the indicator for an NDLS acceptance has been the deposit numbers showing up.Harry_Pluxen wrote:Is this the same across all schools status checkers? Someone needs to write in bold letters for next cycle how much weight ND puts on the why ND paper. Mine was so simple, a few intro sentence about being a good role model, and example of how I fit that role, and then a 2 sentence conclusion about hoping to be at the football game in September. Took me 2 minutes to write it and was just about one page. I got accepted and those with better stats who didn't are getting wait listed

So I'm writing a "Why" essay now that I'm waitlisted to articulate my reasons for why I'm interested in the school. Do you think 2 pages would be acceptable or should I keep it to the general one page?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
