Sorry but really confused here. I haven't heard anything about bar review. Was it in one of the asw emails they sent recently?meggylou wrote:Me too!AllDangle wrote:I plan on heading the the bar review.BigZuck wrote:Thursday night is bar review. Although maybe we could all go and just post up in the corner and ostracize anyone who is not a TLSer?whosonfirst wrote:For those attending the ASW, did you all get an email from a 1L recently? Duke did a really good job of matching me up - went to my undergrad and is interested in my line of work. I really like all the extra attention Duke is putting into this visit, especially that they're making financial aid counselors available for 1-on-1 meetings during ASW. One other school I visited had no fin aid info whatsoever and another had a panel so only general questions allowed. If their career office also provides this level of attention, I now completely understand why Duke has been placing so well.
Also, for all the people interested in a TLS meetup on Thurs night, any ideas for where we could all grab dinner/drinks?
Seriously though, I'm down to meet up Thursday.

It was posted on the Admitted Students facebook page. Apparently each week the students all go to the same bar and call the outing "bar review". The link for the Thursday night meet up is: http://www.facebook.com/events/177875832364150/?ref=2whosonfirst wrote:Sorry but really confused here. I haven't heard anything about bar review. I used to live at the Lenox @ Patterson Place, and I loved it. I paid 770/month for a great 2b/2b with high ceilings, but that was three years ago. There are other more expensive/luxury apartment complexes nearby, costing maybe 900/month. It's between Durham and Chapel Hill, and really only a short drive away from campus. Compared to NYC/Boston/SF, any "commute" in Durham is not worth mentioning.curious66 wrote:Same here..everything I've seen is about 1700-2000 for a 2 bedroom. Please give us the name of that wonderful apartment complexBigZuck wrote: If you know where good 2 bedrooms for $650 are in Durham please let me know. I can't find anything that cheap!.
I also lived at the Lenox East/West complexes of the Ticon Properties. Townhouse style. We used to share a 3b townhouse for a total of 1000/month (around year 2007-2008). Maybe 7 minutes drive away from campus? Very nice place to live too.
Like others have said, you'll find more similar places along the University Drive. I miss my comfy apartments in Durham... Sigh.

Re: Duke c/o 2016 Applicants Thread (2012-2013 Cycle)
I have a question. My status checker tells me they have mailed my scholarship decision as of yesterday. However, given how far away I live, and the less than reliable nature of my mail carrier, I am almost certain that I won't get the letter today. I'm going to admitted students weekend. How unreasonable is it to call and ask if I could pick up a hard copy? Or obtain the information in some other way, so that I have it available to me if I want to talk to a finaid officer while I'm in town? I'd obviously check my mail today first, because there is a chance it gets here; but assuming it doesn't, can I ask?

Better yet, e-mial and explain that you are heading for the airport on the way to Durham and ask if they could send you a pdf. Perfectly 'reasonable' request. The worst that they can say will be 'sorry, system won't allow it'.How unreasonable is it to call and ask if I could pick up a hard copy?

just withdrew my application / mordecai scholarship. have some great options, including Duke, but couldn't see myself attending at this stage. wanted to make sure the scholly money trickled down before deposit deadlines. Duke is an AMAZING school that is insanely underrated on TLS. whomever ends up attending from here should consider themselves very, very lucky. just an awesome place with a great faculty.

Speaking of scholarships, mine says I have to accept it by the date specified in the acceptance letter I received. The only date I can find in the acceptance letter is the deposit deadline (late April). I'm just worried that there's some other date listed somewhere I didn't see. Am I going crazy?

I was wondering the same thing, but I think that's the correct date (4/26). The deposit compilation thread was differentiating btwn scholly accept deadlines vs. just regular deposit deadlines and Duke doesn't have the differentiation so I think it's safe to assume it's the same date (or some other TLSer would have corrected it by now).Forumbrowser45 wrote:Speaking of scholarships, mine says I have to accept it by the date specified in the acceptance letter I received. Michigan will work. Vandy won't (b/c they aren't peers w/ Vandy)GoldHattedGatsby wrote:Has anyone had success negotiating up their scholly with offers from Michigan or Vandy?

from last years thread it looks like Duke was taking applicants from the wait list by early April - feels like I am on a virtual wait list since I haven't had any decision. Anybody else still waiting for a decision?

I would definitely send an LOCI.
