What people can agree on is that if you have at least a 168 on your LSAT, you will almost always get into WUSTL.

When it comes to scholarship offers, i'm not really sure this is true (at least relative to other schools).splitsplat wrote:No one is really saying the LSAT is everything (100%), just that WUSTL weighs the LSAT more heavily than GPA.
If we assume that this year's class will have the same numbers as the Class of 2013, LSN seems to indicate that 75th percentile GPA and 50th percentile LSAT (3.8, 167) seem to be slightly outperforming 75th percentile LSAT and 50th percentile GPA (3.7, 168). The advantage tips slightly in the other direction for 75th and 25th percentile, but there isn't some immense divide anywhere that rewards the high LSAT applicants. I am, of course, using a small sample size which is anything but conclusive.
My point was simply this: I feel like a lot of people are under the impression that scholarship amounts at WUSTL are like admissions, with a heavy preference being given to splitters over reverse splitters or people around both medians. Nothing that I have seen seems to suggest that, so the guy who was considering withdrawing because he thought his low LSAT would mean a small scholarship should probably wait it out.

You have to thing about it in terms of 50th percentile and 75th percentile. There are four benchmarks to meet: 50th for GPA, 75th for GPA, 50th for LSAT, 75th for LSAT. The more of those you help them with, the better. So if one person with similar numbers gets a much higher scholarship, it's likely not just because you have 1 more GPA point, it's because you help with another benchmark. 176 is the same as a 169 for meeting the 75th percentile. 163 is the same as a 166 for meeting the 50th. Thus...they care more about a 168 compared to a 167 than a 175 to a 169.

Nice! I will join when I get home from work. Maybe consider posting it in the accepted student's forum on their website? So non-TLSers can join? Just an idea.josh43299 wrote:Someone had to do it: --LinkRemoved--

Not really sure what you are referring to. Please feel free to post the link. Also, if anyone wants to be an admin on there, PM me. Otherwise, let me know if you have any suggestions about making it better. If you have any pictures please post them up as well.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Was curious on how long it usually takes for the financial office to get back to people on scholarship negotiations. I sent in a request last Thursday and haven't heard a peep since. Was wondering if it was normal to take so long, since I usually get a response in a few hours from the other offices.

Who did you email slash to anyone else who is appropriate to email to discuss scholarships? Do you email admissions or the financial aid people?

I emailed the generic finance@wulaw.wustl.edu who I was talking to before about FAFSA stuff.

For scholarship negotiations, you should probably contact Admissions ( Admiss@wulaw.wustl.edu), and they should contact you back shortly. I do not believe that the financial aid office has anything at all to do with the merit scholarships.

Does anyone know how to un-accept my deposit and get the refund? Do you think an email would suffice? I changed my mind and want to withdraw to free up my financial aid offer/spot for someone else.

I would just email fin-aid....? At least they'll be able to direct you to the proper outlet for such a request if they are not it.fakehunter wrote:Does anyone know how to un-accept my deposit and get the refund? Email admissions, not financial aid. If there is something else you are supposed to do to get the refund, they'll let you know, especially if you ask specifically about that.

in! hoping to get out and visit next week. does anyone think that WUSTL vs W&L is really a choice? Is it obvious not factoring in cost, as that isn't a concern for me fortunately.

Must be nice... I don't think anyone can speak this without knowing where you want to work, where you have ties, and what you want to do.goldeneye wrote:in! hoping to get out and visit next week. does anyone think that WUSTL vs W&L is really a choice? well it matters to me, but I worked a lot during school and can make up the difference scholarship wise. Basically is WUSTL far and away better than W&L?josh43299 wrote:Must be nice... Re: WUSTL c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I think it really comes down to whether you have a preference for working in the South Atlantic or Midwest. I don't think there is a big enough qualitative difference to overcome such a preference. They have similar placement numbers, Washington University's being slightly better. I personally hate Southeastern small towns, so there is that to consider as well (especially if you are not from the South).goldeneye wrote:well it matters to me, but I worked a lot during school and can make up the difference scholarship wise. EDIT (May help make a qualitative comparison?):
#23 WUSTL
Score 69
Peer assessment score (out of 5) 3.7
Assessment score by lawyers/judges (out of 5) 4.1
GPA (25th-75th percentile) 3.22-3.8
Median undergraduate GPA for all program entrants 3.66
LSAT scores (25th-75th percentile) 162-169
Median LSAT score for all program entrants 168
Graduates known to be employed nine months after graduation 80.7%*
#24 W&L
Score 68
Peer assessment score (out of 5) 3.3
Assessment score by lawyers/judges (out of 5) 3.9
GPA (25th-75th percentile) 3.5-3.8
Median undergraduate GPA for all program entrants 3.65
LSAT scores (25th-75th percentile) 159-165
Median LSAT score for all program entrants 164
Graduates known to be employed nine months after graduation 90.2%*
*It is important to note that comparing the nine month employment data is problematic for two reasons: (1) WUSTL used different employment reporting standards than other law schools, but standards which all schools will use next year (that is why they dropped down so much in the rankings). I posted the articles about this a few (?) pages back. (2) W&L hires a ton of graduates to inflate their employment stats.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I worked with a W&L 3L last year, so C/O 2011 and she basically said that very few of her peers including herself were able to secure meaningful employment. That 90% statistic is almost surely very misleading (though not necessarily any more so than most schools). WUSTL's employment figures are pretty transparent with the exception of a lack of breakdown based on firm size like some other higher ranked schools do. Comparing them to each other WUSTL is better in basically every way but if you want to work in the Mid-Atlantic you might as well go to school in the area.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
