11/22 w/ FR
Nice to have a decision date attached to my application. I just hope it isn't a waitlist, since I would wait Berkeley out for quite a while.

Just wanted to pop in and say congrats to all the admits. If you want to be in California after law school, I strongly suggest going to Berkeley Law. I'm not on here very often, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me because I don't check TLS regularly at all. Also, I highly recommend going to ASW -- you will definitely get a feel for the place. Boalt is seriously amazing.
Edit: that's not to say if you want to be somewhere else after law school you shouldn't go to Boalt. Boalt places everywhere. I really think though that after spending a winter here many OOS'ers can't imagine being elsewhere. That said, those NYers really do love and miss NYC for some reason I can't fathom at all ...

Hey y'all, been lurking around these parts for a while, but I have an actual question now, so I figured I'd join up.
In essence, I may be speaking as a panelist for an interdisciplinary conference at Harvard in April on a topic that relates directly to my PS. Should I let Berkeley know about this? I know people say that LOCI's should be saved for when you're waitlisted, and also that Berkeley doesn't really factor them in at all, but this feels like more of an update to my resume/PS than anything else. What should I do?
Oh, and I suppose it's relevant to know that I'm still UR 12/12, no FR, dodging the ding (so far!). I only found out about this opportunity today and am hoping that I don't get dinged before I can tell them about it!

That's definitely a plus, but I'd say it's not LOCI-worthy on its own though. Maybe in combination to other things as a more general update? FWIW, last cycle I sent an update in Feb/March for several things related to my job, including a promotion, organizing and speaking at a couple of conferences and launching a new research project, oh, and a higher LSAT score.moreprejthanprob wrote:Hey y'all, been lurking around these parts for a while, but I have an actual question now, so I figured I'd join up.

Having said that, I tend to think that there's no harm in sending more information. I mean, Dean T in his interview for TLS did say to "throw in the kitchen sink," so...

I would take any sort of communication at this point (though maybe not the financial aid emails).

kitchen sink eh.. since the window was so short for FR, and with just 10 days left til decisions... did any one send anything new in to Berk? I have a 5th LOR I might just email for shits and giggles. Nothing too new, just different perspective from a more senior boss that qualifies better some of my work stuff than my other recommenders did. Its also just plain well written, by a fellow at the UNRedamon1 wrote:That's definitely a plus, but I'd say it's not LOCI-worthy on its own though. A 5th LOR might be overkill. Anyone notice Berkeley's admit pattern is looking a little less holistic these days?: http://berkeley.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1112/

Re: Berkeley c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
The faculty review is more where Berkeley's "holistic" admits come into play. Basically the regular admissions committee admits URMs and people with great stats and interesting stories and rejects others. Once next week rolls around (and the second faculty review) there'll probably be way more diversity in the numbers.ahnhub wrote:Anyone notice Berkeley's admit pattern is looking a little less holistic these days?: http://berkeley.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1112/

Looks more like NYU now. I should also mention that the admits with lower stats tend to pop up later in the cycleahnhub wrote:Anyone notice Berkeley's admit pattern is looking a little less holistic these days?: http://berkeley.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1112/

Re: Berkeley c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Yea you guys have to remember that Berkeley is a t10 school and is trying to remain there. So it might look less holistic right now, but I will say that they do have the admits with lower numbers admitted later because I have a friend 3.99,149 Spanish Female who was held at Berkeley. Holistic doesnt necessarily mean getting in right away, it just means it happens.vincanity1 wrote:Looks more like NYU now. Has anyone else noticed how quiet the Berkeley admissions twitter is being compared to last year?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Help!
I received a phone call from a mysterious (510) zip code but couldn't answer it because I was at work. They didn't leave a message. Looked it up and seems to number originates from Berkeley Law. My status still says under review (since 1/30). Do they normally call? And with good news?!
