I'm really regretting not writing "Why" statements big time. I got slammed with a WL at U Penn and pushed to FR at Berkeley as well.fliptrip wrote:This has you in the YP danger zone big time and UVA doesn't hesitate to YP folks who don't preempt it with showing specific interest.clarf wrote:Well fuck. Yup...winner, winner, chicken dinner! You've hit the trifecta of the worst YP offenders. Don't fret...Penn literally seems to waitlist everyone and Berkeley is a black box. In some way being YP'ed is a compliment.clarf wrote:

Welp I guess I will take it as a compliment. Hopefully this means I have a decent shot at T5.fliptrip wrote:Yup...winner, winner, chicken dinner! You've hit the trifecta of the worst YP offenders. Was pleasantly surprised to go from the "received" email this morning to "complete" to "under review" all in the same day. Here's hoping they are equally quick with a decision!

Depends. I've been UR since 12/1, but I'm pretty sure I'm YP at this point.MrR10 wrote:Just went UR today. Will I have to wait long for a decision?

The thread for admitted students to discuss topics different from admissions. I figured someone might as well do it.

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
"All students who wish to be considered for law school scholarships which have a need component or who are planning to apply for federal financial aid including Stafford and Grad PLUS Loans must complete both The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the on-line Need Access application"
This was a line in an email in the last few minutes from UVA. Is this wording completely accurate? For someone not applying for Need-based school aid at all, why would the Need Access application be necessary for Stafford and Grad PLUS loans? Wouldn't that only be for those trying to get subsidized Stafford loans, which are based on need?
"Federal Unsubsidized Direct Loans are not need-based, and will be offered to any U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen who completes a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)" Also, "Eligibility for the PLUS is not based on demonstrated financial need is direct" are both statements from UVA Law's financial aid site.
Do they just really, really want people to do Need Access and be considered for all available $$ or is it actually the case where someone not pursuing need based has to complete Need Access?
Edit: As an update: Financial Aid at UVA Law says that Need Access is not required if you are not trying for need-based aid from the school (so FAFSA only for unsubsidized loans federal loans, Grad PLUS, etc). Not sure why the initial email says what it says, but whatever.

What was the necessity of signing up for the CIS with that computing ID? I can't find anything useful on there.HangingAround wrote:"All students who wish to be considered for law school scholarships which have a need component or who are planning to apply for federal financial aid including Stafford and Grad PLUS Loans must complete both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the on-line Need Access application"

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I guess it gets you in the system and you can go ahead and see accept/decline aid when it comes out. Not sure why that matters before you enroll, but they made me do the same thing when I applied for undergrad. Never noticed any benefit from it then, don't think it means much.earthabides wrote:What was the necessity of signing up for the CIS with that computing ID?
