Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Uggh. I had to have that conversation with my boss last week because everyone in my office is a blabbermouth and couldn't keep it quiet.smccgrey wrote:I'm ALMOST done with my PS. I'm done with my DS, resume (surprisingly challenging to get into a format that LSAC would be able to convert to PDF), and GULC's optional response.HRomanus wrote:Grey, you're done with your PS and essays already? I'm very jealous. Are you going to work throughout the app cycle or resign at some point?smccgrey wrote:Submit GULC and GWU with one strong LOR or wait for the 2nd LOR, which is going to be pretty boring and generic?
Leaning towards just submitting with one, but submitting earlier.
There's definitely still a fuckton of stuff for me to do.
And I've already talked to my boss and I'm probably going to work all the way up until the middle/end of august because apparently I'm a masochist.
I submitted 6 apps yesterday, and I'm slowly getting the rest ready as I pray that waivers come in. Will submit all on Wednesday waivers or not.

I would submit and then quit. As long as your volunteering is meaningful (aka frequent and an actual commitment) you should be fine. But doing one river clean up over the course of the next 6 months probably won't look too good.HRomanus wrote:That's my concern, especially because my personal statement is about a professional experience. The problem is that it looks like scholarships won't really be finished until March timeframe and like hell I'm working until then. My boss more than doubled my work back in July (with the same expectations) and we're entering a phase where it was hell just doing what I had to do before.smccgrey wrote:I don't think it would reflect that well on you if your app showed that you weren't currently employed. I'd say wait until everything is complete before you resign.
Also are you sure going 6+ months without income is a great idea?
I mean, I wish I could do that but life is expensive AF.
So far as expenses: I live about an hour from my parents, so I'm fine breaking my lease and just moving home for 5-6 months.

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Backing this up. I went complete, and then a couple weeks ago informed my bosses I'm leaving in December (needed extra notice, I'm going to need to train someone). I'm going home for family reasons, but am still planning on finding some volunteer work. As long as you're keeping busy, doing something you feel is meaningful (or something that, if all else fails, you can paint in a positive light to your LS) I don't see a problem. I also don't really feel like, in the grand scheme of things, schools care about your last few months of employment--submit and be free.bound wrote:I would submit and then quit. I'm shocked so many of you are open with your employers. I need to keep it on the DL because I'm pretty sure my job would "be eliminated" if my work found out about my plans for law school. I don't plan on telling them until next summer.

Obsessively checking the What to expect, and the Top 50 dates threads. Really need to get to DC next week and not be able to check status checkers 10 times a day.

ditto, except for the coming back part - they won't be happy if I leave, but they'll be even unhappier if I tell 'm two weeks in advance, so might as well be nice about it next year.rebexness wrote:Yeah I haven't said anything, purely bc my boss will freak out and cry or something. Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I'm going back and forth on this. I want to give them enough time to find and train a replacement, but everyone else who has quit usually gets told not to come back the next day. Buuut I'm leaving for school, not to go work somewhere else so maybe it's different? Idk I gotta think about it more.hereisonehand wrote:ditto, except for the coming back part - they won't be happy if I leave, but they'll be even unhappier if I tell 'm two weeks in advance, so might as well be nice about it next year.rebexness wrote:Yeah I haven't said anything, purely bc my boss will freak out and cry or something. Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I've been honest with them through the process and it's worked out great, with the president of the firm writing a letter of rec--but I am also in a supervisory role that it is probably easier for them to keep me around for the coming months rather than worry about firing me and training someone new.valen wrote:I'm going back and forth on this. I told my boss LSAT stood for Logic Students Application Textbook, that's the length I'm going to in order to conceal my law school plans. I'll give the customary two weeks notice if I do law school full time, but I'm considering GULC PT and if that pans out I'll give them a few months notice, so I can re-locate to the DC office.

My supervisor knows I'm leaving but I was hired with the understanding that I would only be here for a year (with the opportunity for a couple more if I wanted). The previous legal assistant for the firm also worked for a year and is now a 1L.

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Surprised y'all really think this is a big deal, even aside from the small role softs play in applications to begin with. If your WE is meaningful enough to make a good PS or qualification when you submit, it seems dumb for LS's to care if you did it for two years two months or two years six months or whatever. If I were you I'd consider leaving as soon as y'all get a LS option you're happy with--this is like the last time you'll get in a long time to see the world or your folks or have some fun. Sucks if you owe it to your boss to stick around though. :-/HRomanus wrote:That's my concern, especially because my personal statement is about a professional experience. ETA none of the dgaf and quit stuff applies if you're going to be paying a ton of money for law school, I guess...but don't do that.

Possibly, but it's really early for rejections/waitlists. What school?tennactitans wrote:Status reads "Decision rendered, letter in mail."

Do schools still do letters for rejections or wait lists? I thought they only used email for that sort of stuff.smccgrey wrote:what school?tennactitans wrote:Status reads "Decision rendered, letter in mail."
