Got the summer WL email today.. sent in a very substantive LOCI that also served as a Why Duke last week-ish so kindof at a loss of what to do now.

Refreshing my inbox and waiting for the email that says "lolz jk april fools see ya in May," but sadly to no avail.

Got my scholly offer in the mail yesterday. 72K total!!! This is definitely a game changer for me!!

One of my best friends is finishing up at Duke, and the other one is at Michigan, and it's insane how they have these HUGE apartments (2 bedrooms), and pay around $650. That's how much the closet in my NY apartment would be. So I feel you on that cost of living... I lived in NY for undergrad and grad, and it's insane how much money I've spent on rent. And that's just in Queens, not near NYU which is prime Manhattan real estate. Congratulations on the scholly!

If you know where good 2 bedrooms for $650 are in Durham please let me know. I can't find anything that cheap!

EDIT: If I spent the summer getting better at basketball, good enough for Coach K to want me on the team, would he be able to get me admitted? Would a law student be eligible if he didn't play in college?

I think you would still have four years of eligibility. So...that's probably a good back-up plan

Just off the top of my head, Alden Place on 15-501. Maybe Alexan Garrett Farms as well. Great bus service, extremely easy commute to Duke's campus if you have a car, and both really nice/affordable places. I know about a billion Duke law students that live there because they are big enough to feel like a "home" and just far enough from campus to avoid all that undergrad BS.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure every year you attend school counts as a year of eligibility so if you graduated in 4 years you'd only have 1 year left. But Duke did just miss out on a prospect so there might be an open spot

So I've just got to get so good that my 1 year of eligibility would make Duke the favorite for the year. That has to be easier and take less effort than improving my LSAT.

I really like all the extra attention Duke is putting into this visit, especially that they're making financial aid counselors available for 1-on-1 meetings during ASW. One other school I visited had no fin aid info whatsoever and another had a panel so only general questions allowed. If their career office also provides this level of attention, I now completely understand why Duke has been placing so well.

Also, for all the people interested in a TLS meetup on Thurs night, any ideas for where we could all grab dinner/drinks?
