did u go from hold to waitlist? trying to figure out how hls will deal with the massive hold pile, and whenencaenia wrote:I'm reapplying from last cycle. Applied near deadline to SLS, got rejected shortly after 4/20.
As for Harvard, I was WLed in a wave in late April, then in the first week of May, around 20 people were accepted off the WL, and it was trickle for the rest of the summer.

I guess I must've been held but there was no "hold email" (like this year). First contact from HLS was a WL offer in late April.

"decision mailed" How do they usually send decisions? I read that they call for admits.

It could be they have admitted a few in March/April not from TLS.
again, this isn't to predict the future but to say that there seems to have been a steady enough stream of acceptances over the past couple weeks
There were some acceptances on this forum in the past couple of weeks. But the ones that were here were not from soft hold candidates. So the idea is, yeah they may have been accepting the late submitters, but they have in the past accepted some soft holds, so we expect that to happen again. So I guess my question is, when did you submit? Also possible they have been accepting soft holds, but just throwing it out there.

oh, sorry. somehow glossed over the soft hold premise. hm, i have no idea when the other ppl i mentioned submitted. i submitted my app close to deadline and my dean's certification form was not even SENT to stanford until late february, so def not a soft hold. good luck!

Have previous DLS status updates happened all at once, in waves throughout the day, or individually throughout the day?

Seems like it's been pretty random throughout the last month or two...so I'd guess individually throughout the day. But it's hard to tell b/c people post at different times.Genki wrote:Have previous DLS status updates happened all at once, in waves throughout the day, or individually throughout the day?

I would guess that the soft hold DLS's will come in a wave, the recent ones have been mostly late submits. They were also coming in waves earlier in the cycle.

Genki, the way I recall last year, the DLSes trickled out in in early April, then by mid-April there were more. I remember feeling optimistic as more people got DLSed until ultimately it was me who got the DLS. Kinda like a horror movie

is it possible that my exceptionally late submission actually helped me to get a decision faster and sooner?Elendil wrote:I would guess that the soft hold DLS's will come in a wave, the recent ones have been mostly late submits. They were also coming in waves earlier in the cycle.

Depends on your definition of sooner...I think if its sooner relative to the calendar...probably not. If its sooner relative to your submit date...maybe. If you submitted in Nov, it's possible you would have been accepted in feb, or maybe the same time in march, but i doubt it would have hurt you. So maybe you would have waited longer, but it's possible you would have actually heard back before you did this time.Geneva wrote:is it possible that my exceptionally late submission actually helped me to get a decision faster and sooner?Elendil wrote:I would guess that the soft hold DLS's will come in a wave, the recent ones have been mostly late submits. Yes, last year there was not a final wave after the first week of April. But last year there was a mass group of acceptances in the few weeks prior to April (and some during the first week). So, saying that nothing happened after this date last year is not very informative...

Every time someone posts a "DLS" I freakout and check my status . . . and feel a joy of triumph when it says my file is under review.

Agreed. My optimism and enthusiasm is quickly being replaced by sadness with a hint of anger.

Re: Stanford c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
The way I'm picturing it, there's a big stack of "held" applications and that pile gets smaller by a few each day as they eliminate a couple. But are they accepting any of those? It seems like a big war of attrition and those of us waiting are just having our hopes played with until we get the grim news... not sure if that's the reality (I sure hope there are many acceptances to still be made) but it feels like that at this point...Agreed. My optimism and enthusiasm is quickly being replaced by sadness with a hint of anger.
+1 on losing hope...

Anybody know what the SLS wait list situation is? Is it an arid wasteland, like Columbia's Reserved Group? Is there a decent reason to hope, like with Georgetown's Preferred Waiting List?

Yea, our "prize" for making it through the soft hold bloodbath might just be a waitlist...
In regards to waitlist activity, they always take some people from it, but the amount varies by year.

Wish I didn't just do that. But the sample is so small, perhaps it's meaningless....brogoc wrote:compare the "WL/admit" lines on the graph in the OP and the one on the GULC thread.ned wrote:Anybody know what the SLS wait list situation is?
