real nervous you guys... I've seen a lot of 158-160s getting straight rejected. If they're rejecting these, who are they planning to waitlist?

Not sure if any current UF students or anyone else can help me, but husby is starting his job search in Gainesville. He is really looking for ANY full time employment, but we don't know where to start. He will have his bachelor's in business management and about 2 years of work experience in management. Any idea where we should start looking for jobs that begin in August? or July? ANY help at all would be wonderful!

Hey everybody! This is my first post on the TL board. My status is currently "File Reviewed: No decision reached" and my status date is 12/1/2010. The waiting is killing me!
I was going to visit the school at some point next week. I don't have much time but I was thinking of taking a basic tour, and talking with a few people within the admissions department. Is there anything else I should be looking at? What was helpful for others when they visited the school?
I really appreciate your input, thanks everyone!

Pardon my skepticism, Moose, but I doubt there's section-stacking.
Even at a "big" law school such as UF, sections are small relative to undergraduate populations. It is probably not statistically unlikely that one section would happen to have a group of people with characteristics different than other groups. It probably just seems that UF is grouping people together when it just happens occasionally, just as heads will sometimes occur 8 times in a row when flipping a coin 1,000 times.
How the heck do you know that 60 people in your section have scholarships, and their specific type of scholarship? Seems odd to me, my friend.Moose Thompson wrote: There are more than 60 people with merit based, renewable scholarships in section one.
If, as I'm guessing, you gathered information from 60+ people in your section at the same time, there's a strong reason to lie--who wants to feel stupider than their peers, especially Type A personality (as most law students are) people?Moose Thompson wrote: Could some of them be lying about it? Sure, but why would they?
And I'm another one of those that is skeptical. I think it's possible, but even if they do it, I think it would be kept extremely hush-hush. I came from the section that was known as the "gunner" section--and I still don't think that the sections were stacked.Moose Thompson wrote: The 2Ls and 3Ls that I'm friends with completely disagree about UF section stacking, but I think there was some stacking this year.

Hearsay is often terribly unreliable, but in fairness to you, it's some evidence towards stacking. I wouldn't weigh it too favorably, however.Moose Thompson wrote: I feel ridiculous for even saying this, but a friend's uncle who is on the admissions committee told her that they were section stacking this year. They expected a certain number of them to withdraw, and then fill those seats with people from the wait list. They just didn't have as many people withdraw as expected. I don't take that as gospel, but I think it points towards stacking.

Haha yes!! I know these rankings are mostly bs and the difference between 47-50 (or w/e FSU is) is nil, but any guesses for why FSU jumped while UF stayed put?

No, we didn't have a round table to discuss scholarships. 60+ comes from me talking to people as I've gotten to know them over a semester and a half. It's not hard to ask "is your scholarship renewable" versus "was your scholarship a one-time pay out." More than half of my section claims to have a scholarship that they need to maintain a certain GPA to keep. Most of the conversation came this semester when grades dropped. People saying "oh good, I should be able to maintain my scholarship" or "oh man, I need a 3.6 this semester to keep my scholarship!" They could be liars, sure. I was simply passing along my experience.GatorStudent wrote:Pardon my skepticism, Moose, but I doubt there's section-stacking.

It's not about gunning or being smarter than anyone else. I don't know why that always comes into conversation about section stacking. It's a matter of whether or not the majority of scholarships are in one section. All three sections have brilliant people.
The majority view is UF doesn't section stack. I'm in the minority. I have no problem with that.

Unless the school just gave out 60% of the students scholarships...Moose Thompson wrote:No, we didn't have a round table to discuss scholarships. 60+ comes from me talking to people as I've gotten to know them over a semester and a half. Which wouldn't technically be section stacking, but would still be deplorable.
