Sorry that I'm late to the Yale c/o 2017 thread! I would be eternally grateful if someone could shed some light on my situation: I applied back in December and haven't heard a peep. Am I doomed to receive a ding / WL or do I still have a shot at an accept through FR?

I think there are a number of us in a similar boat. I don't think there's a way to know what it means. My guess is that it at least means you weren't an auto-ding!

Yesterday I unsuccessfully attempted to hit on a girl, and today I found myself absentmindedly texting a friend that "I got dinged by that redhead that I told you about the other day." Does anyone know how TLS ended up using the term "ding" to mean rejection? I mean, I understand things like "180" and "TCR" to be terminology adopted from LSAT prep, but where did "ding" come from?

Also, pokemonsters has the best avatar ever. Never change it, pokemonsters!

I think it originated from game shows and contests (like spelling bees) where the host would hit a bell and "ding" someone when they were disqualified.

It's pretty common in MMOs when people level up. It was pretty confusing when I first joined

So are we thinking today is still early in the week? And rejections are definitely coming out? Random speculation appreciated.

hmm I wish, but I don't think so. There might be some dings that were supposed to come out yesterday, but instead have been postponed to today or tomorrow.
