I went on Sat. but only stayed for the formal part of the reception. I was impressed and must admit that Gerald Treece left a great impression about the trial advocacy program (even though at this point I prefer transactional law).

I didn't attend, but I can say from spending a good amount of time at both, STCL's library > UH's library.
Honestly, if U of H lets me in off of the waitlist, I would have to think long and hard about my options due to this.
Also, U of H is f'ing expensive.

I love when anyone says they're going to think "long and hard". Turning down U of H for STCL doesn't seem practical to me, unless you had a full-ride with a stipend at STCL, and a family situation that required zero debt. I don't even think STCL offers that kind of "package".

UH is a great school and it was definitely my first choice. I also understand STCL is a t4 so spare me of that argument. But my thinking is, a long shot acceptance off of the wait list leads to no money. With tuition only going up at public schools in Texas, UH's tuition is only getting more expensive.
I have a scholly with a reasonable stip at STCL, making the COA significantly lower. I don't know about you, but $75k in loans compared to $200k in loans makes it a tough decision.
If there's something wrong in my reasoning, please enlighten me.

Thanks TT, I appreciate the support.
BTW, please tell me you going to the Wiz Khalifa concert July 6th. I'll definitely be there if you are.

If we have the same stip, I wouldn't call it reasonable. 3.0 = top 25% = 75% chance you wave bye to it.maxm2764 wrote:

Agreed, reasonable may have been pushing it. Maybe we can call it acceptable?upfish wrote:If we have the same stip, I wouldn't call it reasonable. 3.0 = top 25% = 75% chance you wave bye to it.maxm2764 wrote:

Top 30%. Also, the curve is being pushed up starting this year, so hopefully it will be closer to 40%. Either way, it's better than no scholly money with no stips.

Re: South Texas 2011
Ugh... I finally signed on an apartment Saturday after the ASR. I'm living pretty far from downtown (Westheimer/Voss area), but my husband works over in Westchase so we had to split the difference. I don't think it's going to be a bad commute.andrewb414 wrote:I was also impressed with the facilities. I cut out shortly after the start of the reception so that I could go apartment hunting. That was and still is a daunting task.
Everything's just so darn expensive.
Also, if we got loans (Stafford and/or Grad PLUS... I was offered both) when do we actually receive them? When do we get our class schedules? Is it at orientation? Doesn't give us much time to do our first assignments/readings if so.

Yeah, I would say those aren't impossible stips. And yes, that concert will have me in attendance. I've already seen him twice. The dude is legit.maxm2764 wrote:Agreed, reasonable may have been pushing it. As I understand it, today is the day for the few last decisions. Hopefully, that proves to be true.

I just withdrew. Opens up a Dean's Merit Scholarship. STCL is a great school, but when compared to Tech's COL, it was a difficult choice. Good luck to you all!

+10000000000. I would actually like the answer to all of these questions, as well.holliebell wrote:

I made it pretty clear in my post that I was giving a personal opinion. There is no absolute in these decisions. However, FOR ME, I would feel comfortable taking on a much more considerable amount of debt at U of H as opposed to STCL. My living expenses are covered in either situation so we are probably looking at two different scenarios.
