Seems to me like subtle and tricky way to YP... allow superstar applicants to apply for merit aid before letting them in and then WL 'em if they don't even bother to apply?

This was my first thought as well.

I find it odd that they took so damn long to review us Sept. completes only to WL all of us. That seems very weird.

Maybe YP? They GPA median isn't very impressive so I'd think they'd admit you (especially to counter-balance my GPA). I think it's pretty obvious that some of the T10s are trying to bump their LSAT medians and it looks like Chicago is in that bunch.

I don't think YP and 169 are ever in the same sentence when it comes to the T14.

A 3.9+ from HYPS. Chicago is a huge snob for prestigious UGs. I really don't know what to think.

Waitlisted...don't know if I will ride it out. Even if I got in I think I would still take current offer from Mich. Hmmm.....does Chicago have a reputation for admitting many from the waitlist?

Considered it, yes, but I moved cross-country over the summer and couldn't devote the time to studying for the September test. I knew I wanted to apply early in the cycle too. If I'd gotten shut out of HYSCCN, I would have thought about waiting a year, retaking in June 2010 and applying next year.

Luckily those are all moot points now.

Asking for a Why Chicago essay that seems targeted at people with higher numbers? It does seem like a form of YP. Not sure yet if I'm going to write it. Seems like skipping it would be an auto-waitlist.

Yes, in the acceptance package you get something like a yearbook entitled "The Glass Menagerie" which states the names and UGs of the last three classes. Looks like you can't throw a stick there without hitting someone from a prestigious school. I'm a little intimidated.

On another note, while I vaguely understand your rationale for not withdrawing from places even after the HYS sweep, I profess that I am profoundly confused why you would create extra work for yourself in the form of a Why Chicago essay when you know for an absolute fact that you won't be attending. Did you apply for the Rothman at USC too?

No. My family would like me to get into Chicago, so it's silly to cause disappointment over an essay. It shouldn't take long to write 500 words; they're probably just looking for the gesture.

Also, I'm just curious to see what happens.
