Although I wasn't in the 12/19 group, I also updated to 1/18 (actually 1/17 but it happened on 1/18?). I thought my numbers were pretty good for Penn, but maybe not? I submitted kind of late, didn't write a Why Penn, and also just got WLed at Chicago, so it's possible that my app sucks.

However, I thought this thread had concluded that the dates mean nothing? Maybe I'm thinking of another school.

I'm in the same situation (applied a bit late, 12/19 first update, 1/17 update on 1/18). Also thought my numbers were good for Penn, but I guess we'll see.

The jury is still out on what exactly they mean, if anything. At the very least they do seem to indicate how many people have reviewed your app and in what order they are reviewing apps. For example, perhaps getting stuck on a first review while others have a 2nd UR means that the decision isn't clear from the first review so they are holding you informally. I think we'll find out the answer if people with only one UR get any kind of decision before having a second UR.

Figured I'd make the trip and go to one of the upcoming information sessions where you have a quick information session with admissions, tour of the school, and then sit in on a class.

Slacks/polo necessary, or can I get away with jeans (which I'd greatly prefer)?

Wear whatever. I originally signed up to be the tour for tomorrow, and I would be wearing jeans.

Although, I have gone to information sessions in suits myself, so I see your point. It probably won't matter much either way.

Nope, still at 12/19.

I wouldn't be devastated by a ding from Penn, but I'd be upset since it's my alma mater and I put significant effort into my app, especially my essay on literature & law. As an undergrad I spent a lot of time going to law school events and studying in the Biddle library, and I love the school.

Trying to keep my expectations low at this point...

Well if you wore a suit - you could be coming from work. If you wore a stained tee complete with holes ... well you will be that guy.
