To be honest, I gave up most hope when I got the complete email. I was never really expecting a JR1, so it wasn't too much of a blow for me.

I've given up 98% of hope, but part of me just wants it badly enough to be unable to let go I expect I will be really disappointed whenever they send out the WLs/rejections, despite not being at all surprised.

Honestly, I'd rather not get a JR1 than get a JR1 but no JR2, which is where a handful of us sit right now. Consider yourselves somewhat lucky.

Sorry if I'm asking silly questions, but if my GPA percentile rank at my school (HYP) is only 66%, is that alone too low for Harvard? I had thought my mediocre GPA was a bit low for Harvard anyway but 66th percentile makes it sound even more mediocre.

keep in mind you've probably already got a solidly self-selective group there because that's only among students who are applying to law school

edit: oh yeah and, uh, they go to HYP

yea and don't forget mine's lower than 66% as well, for both law school applicants and overall at my school, i believe.

i thought HYP had heavy grade inflation?? maybe not to get that stellar 4.0, but to get relatively high GPAs

You go to HYP, so it really won't be seen as a problem. I traded a top 10 UG for full tuition at a top 20, but I don't see any problems with the grade inflation at schools like HYP. Beating 40% of those who were admitted to that school is definitely decent . The main thing that they care are if your #s are high enough as is for HLS (and u get some more leeway if you actually go to H).

i think he wanted more specifics from me than i gave. i had them in my mind but for some reason i didn't include them. then the back-and-forth during my questions to him was sort of awkward bc my mind went blank and i didn't really have a response to his response except 'that's interesting.'

it is known for heavy grade inflation. but the extent to which the grades are inflated actually isn't relevant here. the OP's actual GPA isn't the matter at hand; it's his GPA relative to his classmates. whether A's are fairly easy to get or very difficult to get at his school, it's still the same pool of highly talented people he is up against.

my HYP --> no grade inflation. according to LSAC, the mean is a 3.43.
