Here is the breakdown of Columbia, based on LSN input from the last 5 cycles. So even though NYU has a lot of predictive power with Columbia, NYU seems to care more about quartiles (or you can say the LSAT and GPA quartiles for NYU are good predictors for NYU, but Columbia quartiles are not as good of predictors for Columbia).

Looking at LSAT and GPA, you can predict about 57% of applicants
Columbia decision tree, the parenthesis are # correctly classified / # incorrectly classified

Code: Select all

lsat <= 170

You can get about 10 points better performance by looking at what other schools did (though I did not use NYU and Stanford, because there are still many folks waiting on them). Note: it is a far more complicated tree.

Hey, first time posting here. Got in about three weeks ago, no scholarship information included with admission. Anyone know anything about merit based scholarships for Columbia? Aside from Hamilton or Butlers I haven't seen much. What's my next step?

Hey so I tried calling in to ask if they received my LOCI but the machine that answered said that if I have any specific questions about my application, to Email them instead (which I did but received no response). How did people call them to ask about their LOCI, since all application questions seem to be email only?

I just called the Admissions office and asked them, I don't remember hearing a recorded message. The lady I spoke too was more than happy to help me, so I wouldn't hesitate to call until you get through to someone. FYI, I submitted mine through the LOCI portal online and didn't receive confirmation, but I was told on the phone that no confirmation emails are sent from the portal, so if that's your problem I wouldn't fret :)

Thank you for your response! I called again to ask if they received it and they said yes (Im assuming this means they added it to my file). So yep, youre right about them not sending confirmation emails when sending LOCI through the portal. :)

I called and they said that they received about 500 LOCIs all at once so they're still working on getting through them. How many people does that mean were put on hold... yikes

Oh, you are wonderful for confirming this.

As for the person who said they received 500 LOCIs, they were sending out hold and reserve emails around the same times, so I'm sure they got bombarded with them from both groups.

I was part of the February Hold group. I sent in a LOCI. Radio silence since. Is this the case for anyone else? Did anyone actually get in this way?

Also Feb hold with a LOCI - We're going to be some of the last applications they review (again) and the deadline is April 25th, so I wouldn't count on hearing any time soon.

When we first got the email, I was worried the "send a LOCI by March 28" meant that's when they would start revisiting our apps, but now I'm afraid that might be true.

Looking at past threads it seems that people begin getting acceptances off of the hold list around early-mid April.

Sorry to be annoying, is that a late hold or a reserve?

Lol I don't even know, since my e-mail from February explicitly said my application was placed on hold. Sounds to me as if it's hold though.
