I don't have backups.. I'm from a small school where one professor has taught 90% of my classes. I struggled just to find a second professor willing to write a letter.Dirigo wrote:Seek out backups now. Gentle reminder with a deadline should be enough prodding.

I had a similar situation with a prof I TA for. I just kept reminding him that LSAT scores would be "released soon" and then he would say "Oh I need to get your LOR in." He finally did, but it was the last one I was waiting for. Maybe give him a thank you card in advance? That might be too passive aggressive, though.Dream_weaver32 wrote:I don't have backups.. Not the worst idea since he doesn't seem to have backups. That is an insanely small school...That being said he or she can probably write a killer LOR from knowing you so well. It'll work itself out. We are still very early in the process.Toby Ziegler wrote:I had a similar situation with a prof I TA for. It is a very small school, and I expect it to be a very good letter. As a URM with numbers that are likely on the low end, I really wanted to submit as early as possible.imKMart wrote: Not the worst idea since he doesn't seem to have backups. I can't imagine anyone writing a LOR would say anything negative.blueberrycrumble wrote:at least you've got that going for you; no idea whats in my LORs... can only hope its positiveDream_weaver32 wrote:It is a very small school, and I expect it to be a very good letter. Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I don't think it's so much as negative, but just generally less effusive. For example, instead of writing, "he/she was one of the best students I ever had in class" it would say "he/she achieved an A while not participating much". Or something along those lines. That little blurb can really hurt more than the former can help.Dream_weaver32 wrote:I can't imagine anyone writing a LOR would say anything negative.blueberrycrumble wrote:at least you've got that going for you; no idea whats in my LORs... can only hope its positiveDream_weaver32 wrote:It is a very small school, and I expect it to be a very good letter. For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Would it matter if mine went for a few lines longer?

for some it is strict (e.g. UCLA), for some it is not - if you have something that's longer than 2 pages, you'll need to make sure for all schools whether they'll accept itYeezusPiece wrote:For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Probably better to edit it down and not have to worry about it.YeezusPiece wrote:For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Would it matter if mine went for a few lines longer?

I think that a few lines over calls for some formatting wizardry to bring it down (11 pt font in Garamond or another condensed typeface).YeezusPiece wrote:For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Would it matter if mine went for a few lines longer?

I have a few schools that ask specifically for 12 pt times font, double spaced, 1" margins. So you'll have to check the schools if you go that route.lc39 wrote:I think that a few lines over calls for some formatting wizardry to bring it down (11 pt font in Garamond or another condensed typeface).YeezusPiece wrote:For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Do you think its okay if the font for your resume and personal statement are different? I know for job apps, our career centre insists this is a ding.smccgrey wrote:For shortening just a bit, kerning is your friend.

I would never be able to fit my resume on one page if I used the same format. So mine are definitely different.blueberrycrumble wrote:Do you think its okay if the font for your resume and personal statement are different? Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
I have both a 2-pg and a 2.5-pg version of my PS and I just obsessively double-check that I'm submitting to the right schools. It's not a major inconvenience. I've actually been pleasantly surprised how many say "about 2 pages" or just dgaf.YeezusPiece wrote:For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Even though for some schools 2 pages is just a guideline, I'm of the opinion the less reading you make admissions officers do, the better.YeezusPiece wrote:For the PS, is 2 pages meant to be a guideline, or a requirement? Would it matter if mine went for a few lines longer?

Going insane!
Finally got my University to lift the hold on my transcript, and got them to send it to my college to be sent to LSAC. My college returned it to them because they didn't have my name on file, despite the fact that I emailed them and asked them to look out for it.
Guess this gives me some extra time for my personal statement..
