My condolences to those of you who were waitlised. If any of you really want Penn, I don't think you should give up entirely; there will probably be more movement on the waitlist this cycle.

Read the above and checked my status (Had been UR 12/7, no Why Penn). Waitlist as of today, lol.

Want to lauch a small survey. Among all the people who got waitlisted today or earlier, how many of them wrote a why Upenn essay? I am trying to gauge the correlation between the optional essay and application outcome. I myself didn't tailer P.S. or write optional essay for all the schools I applied to (deeply regretting now) got waitlisted and held by all the places I have so far heard back from..

I didn't write a Why Penn. I think that might have negatively impacted my chances, but who really knows? I'm sure lots of people on here have gotten into Penn without one with numbers that are much higher than mine. I think it's just one of those things-- certain adcomms are going to read your file and be really enthused about you and want you to come to their school, and others will be less enthused and think that you're not as compelling as someone else. C'est la vie. I'm not too broken up over it. TBF, I don't even know if I'd have chosen Penn over some of the other opportunities I've already gotten.
