I was admitted on 1/18 too and also have not received the admit packet yet. I emailed the admissions dept and they said it had been sent and not returned to them, so there must be something weird happening with the USPS. I thought it was just my postal guy (I recently had a piece of mail delivered to the wrong address TWICE before it finally showed up at my place way later), but if you're having the same problem idk...I was thinking of emailing again next week if I still haven't gotten it and requesting they send a new packet. My address was correct on the pdf of the letter they sent me, so idk what's up...potterotter wrote:I was admitted Jan 18 and I still haven't received anything in the mail--no acceptance letter, no admitted students handbook--should I email them about this or is this the norm?
I got that financial aid email too. I'm working on my app right now but good god it is so time-consuming. My parents are SUPER annoyed they have to send their tax returns in to the school...I had to remind them that this was not my fault, blame Columbiahellohalo wrote:

Honestly I'm just praying that surviving all these waves of WL/Holds means good news. I interview with Columbia next week. LSAT<25th, 50th<GPA<75th. Obviously a reach for me. Can anyone with similar stats let me know how their interview went?

How do you even send tax returns?! It says you have to sign it? I do all mine on Turbotax and have a PDF copy. Do I just print that and send it over?airwrecka wrote:I was admitted on 1/18 too and also have not received the admit packet yet. I do mine online, too, so that's what I think I'm going to do. I'll probably end up calling financial aid beforehand, though, just to be sure I do it correctly. It also says we need to send in all "attachments" which include W2s. I don't think I still have my W2s from last year! I sure hope I can figure all this out...jjcorvino wrote:How do you even send tax returns?! It says you have to sign it? I do all mine on Turbotax and have a PDF copy. I just realized I don't know where the W2 from one of my jobs in 2015 is. I think it is in my filing cabinet but I am not sure. I have electronic copies of my latest job's W2.airwrecka wrote:I do mine online, too, so that's what I think I'm going to do. Super intrigued by this...could you give an example of what you mean? Doesn't have to be columbia related. The art of the interview has been interesting me from my job, after the LS ones I've done, and my boyfriend just went on 17 for md residency match. Cool feedback thought regardless thanks for posting!wheathins wrote:I had my interview earlier this week.
YO. Columbia's got their s*** together.
I think they're very serious about weeding out gunners/assholes/sociopaths/boring nerds/etc and they're really, really good at it.
I was really impressed by the interviewer's savvy questioning.
It felt like a Google/Apple interview (and I've done interviews w/ other schools).
My questions were very specific to my app but he/she put a spin on them. I'm like...wow....
My LSAT's around their median but I felt like my interviewer would be the kind of person who'd get 178+ after 1 month of studying.
Smartest interviewer I've ever had. One hell of an interviewer.
In terms of specific questions (at least for me)... I'd say there was ABSOLUTELY no value in knowing what questions were asked of others.
Like many others, I read this thread carefully and compiled the questions (Why Law? Why Columbia? About PS, etc) and thought about them carefully, but they proved to be absolutely useless. The interviewer seemed to know the game all too well and asked questions in a way that would force me to reveal my true personality/nature/how I really think.
If I could interview again... I would take a trip to somewhere quiet by myself and really ponder who I am and what my priorities are.
I had the impression that interviews were basically just checking that you're a functional human being and can talk normally... and indeed, that was the case with other schools (relaxed, fun, etc). But I get the sense that Columbia is trying to do more than that. It's like... they're trying to actually peek inside your soul by throwing you off balance with creative questions that are specifically catered to your app.
The questions were just.... smart, smart.
Good luck guys

Columbia was the best interview I had, but it was nothing like what's described here. I guess they're just great across the board and the various interviewers probably have very different styles. I was very impressed is my main point.wheathins wrote:I had my interview earlier this week.

So, do you think the questions they asked were not really necessary to prepare the responses, but more you had to know yourself and the path you're on?wheathins wrote:It was sort of like that famous Google (or Apple? forgot) interview question: Why is the manhole a circle and not a rectangle? Apply that kind of questioning to your CV and PS. Like.... "I see you ordered turkey sandwich in 2015. Why didn't you order meatball sandwich? What makes you think the meatball sandwich will satisfy your hunger? Tell me one difference between turkey sandwich and meatball sandwich that no one knows about.." and on and on, without rest.
I prepared/rehearsed answers only for why I ordered turkey sandwich.... it never crossed my mind that the interviewer would ask about meatball sandwich so you can't help but be honest.
I guess my interview was a bit unusual. But my point is: Don't go in thinking it's going to be the traditional 1) Why law? 2)Why Columbia? 3) etc. I did exactly that and was totally thrown away. However, I did feel like I communicated A LOT about myself to the interviewer by the end of the interview.
