Quick question for those who've submitted info for merit and/or need-based scholarships - did you just do this for Duke on NeedAccess or did you go ahead and do it for other schools you got in to, as well? Not sure what the process is with this and want to do it correctly. Thanks in advance.

Hoping I understand what you're asking, but I went through the list provided within the Need Access form and selected every school I applied to.aviendha wrote:Quick question for those who've submitted info for merit and/or need-based scholarships - did you just do this for Duke on NeedAccess or did you go ahead and do it for other schools you got in to, as well? Could someone who's been admitted say exactly what happens with the status checker as you go through the process? For example, does UR2 mean that we'll see "UR2", "under review 2", or just "under review" with a new status date?

First off, congrats on your great stats and don't worry--you'll be fine.SomeElleWoodsJoke wrote:Yep.Duggiiee wrote:That is really surprising. Did you write the supplemental essays?SomeElleWoodsJoke wrote:Priority Reserve, PT, 170/3.7
Ow.
The email says "If you are able to visit Duke Law in the coming weeks, you are welcome to schedule an optional interview with the office of admissions to discuss your candidacy." On the visiting page, it says interviews are informational and do not affect admissions. I take it this interview is no different?
If Duke is your top choice, then visit, interview, and convince admissions of that. You got priority reserve for 1 of 3 possible reasons: (1) yield protection; (2) a specific problem from your application; or (3) a mistake. Number (1) is, by far, the most likely reason. But either way, the interview would let you iron out the problem.

The latter. It does NOT say "under review 1, under review 2." It simply changes the date while being "under review."

Exactly my point. There is either something specific in your app giving admissions pause OR admissions thinks you will not attend. Either way, an interview helps you make your case.SomeElleWoodsJoke wrote:Thanks, I appreciate it. See I thought my stats were too middle of the road for YP? Looking at numbers it's rather discomforting that like 99% of similar get in.

Does neurotically checking my status 10 times per day show my enthusiasm for the school and improve my chances of admission?

I like to think each school has a tracker of how many times the status checker has been refreshed by each applicant.RZ5646 wrote:Does neurotically checking my status 10 times per day show my enthusiasm for the school and improve my chances of admission?
"She's only checked 30 times this week? Waitlist her."
Or maybe there's a minimum number of checks you have to reach before they will give you a response. Both of those seem very likely.

I've been having a pretty good cycle and I never check the status checkers, but maybe I'm just the exception that proves the rule...Nagster5 wrote:I like to think each school has a tracker of how many times the status checker has been refreshed by each applicant.RZ5646 wrote:Does neurotically checking my status 10 times per day show my enthusiasm for the school and improve my chances of admission?

Duke is probably the only one I'll obsess over. The other schools don't have that 10 day rule, so updates will likely be too slow and unpredictable to bother checking on every day.WinterComing wrote:I've been having a pretty good cycle and I never check the status checkers, but maybe I'm just the exception that proves the rule...Nagster5 wrote:I like to think each school has a tracker of how many times the status checker has been refreshed by each applicant.RZ5646 wrote:Does neurotically checking my status 10 times per day show my enthusiasm for the school and improve my chances of admission?

But the thing with PT is, at this point, you probably won't hear back until day 9 or 10, and you'll hear back within 10 days anyways. So expect it on day 10 and anything earlier in your email is a gift. No point in checking status checker because the only useful update at this point is "decision sent: watch for email". UR1/2 isn't indicative of much.RZ5646 wrote: Duke is probably the only one I'll obsess over. That's true. When you think about it, there's really no point in using the online status checkers. Just chill and wait for an email in a couple months.lymenheimer wrote:But the thing with PT is, at this point, you probably won't hear back until day 9 or 10, and you'll hear back within 10 days anyways. Re: Duke University School of Law C/O 2019 Applicants
Pretty much. I mean it's nice to see that your materials have been submitted and are completed. Some do give decisions by status checker. But most of those decisions are followed by email/phone call. It's also more unpredictable here later in the cycle with so many applicants. At the beginning of the cycle, especially with Duke PT, it's possible to get a decision within like a 4 day turn around. So that can be useful to see how quickly they are moving through URs. But then some people got accepted PT with only one (recognized) UR, so it became more unpredictable.RZ5646 wrote:That's true. Has anyone who was admitted this week been invited to interview for Mordecai?

Just had my interview after the failed attempt on Wednesday. It was really good, we talked for about half an hour and the tone was very friendly. I said everything I feel like I needed to say, and the tone, as everyone keeps saying, was very relaxed.
Now, to wait for scholarship info.

That sounds great! I can't wait to get in there (on Skype) and have mine. I wanted to reschedule for an earlier date, but someone jumped in it before I could.burtsbeesfanatic wrote:

One piece of crucial info he gave is that the scholarship committee won't have its first meeting until February since the endowment investment #s won't be available until then, and they don't want to be making decisions without having an idea what the money looks like. The committee meets every Friday, so I imagine the scholarships will start being sent out in mid February, with the date of your interview being your place in line.lymenheimer wrote:That sounds great! If the 10th day after one's PT application is complete falls on a weekend, does one hear back by the Friday before? Put differently, does Duke release (PT) admissions decisions on the weekends?
