They were on mine as soon as I got the status checker, don't think it means anything, sorry.

Does anyone know how conducive WUSTL is to scholarship negotiations with the June LSAT? Highly considering taking it but only if it's going to help me with scholarship negotiations, but I know it will be super late by that point.

There's actually a solid chance they'll play ball. WUSTL isn't afraid to bump people for improving their stats.LadyProspero wrote:Does anyone know how conducive WUSTL is to scholarship negotiations with the June LSAT? You should do it regardless though. Retaking can be worth enough money to defer a year and call it a salary (and tax free!). One or two points can be a huge $$$ difference, so just do it full tilt and worry about the timing of law school and negotiations later.

Yea I really need to. I have a 3.85/155 (3.82 LSAC), was surprised to even get in, I was accepted within 10 days of applying (not URM). I'm not hopeful for much money if any in my current situation, but the speed of everything and the fact I've been given a travel stipend has made me somewhat hopeful. Really like to go this year though (with LSAT bump and money) than have a third gap year. I can crush the test, my biggest enemy is just procrastinating with studying.Fiero85 wrote:There's actually a solid chance they'll play ball. Oh dear god you have to retake. Especially if you feel confident you can do better on the LSAT. 10 points and you could be going to penn or uva instead of paying close to sticker here. I know another gap year would suck, but it sounds easily worth it in your case.LadyProspero wrote:Yea I really need to. Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
I know. I pretty much took it cold (twice). I did some studying but never drilled. I got to the point I could do logic games just didn't practice to do them in the time constraint. My original diagnostic was 151, got a 152 then a 155. I PT'ed at 161 with about three hours of drilling games, but then put off the test and basically didn't study for two months. Then I tried to cram the week of and got a 155. I'm going to retake in June. Looking at debt numbers has made me sick enough to my stomach that the fire is there to get it done.
I've actually only applied to two schools thus far and been accepted to both (the other is W&M with money). Going to apply to a few more this week. But yea I will be retaking. I took a Powerscore class but outside of class time I literally did almost nothing, except that one week I referenced where I did about 3 hours of drilling games and shot up to a 161.

Taking in June will give you plenty of time to prepare, and most schools are now considering June scores I think. You are doing the right thing. ~3 months of hard work for tens of thousands of dollars in savings. Can't beat that. Good luck!

I feel you. I think you should definitely put the time in to study and retake. Could get you a lot more $, esp b/c you were accepted so quickly with the lower score. I am also considering re-taking in June, and seeing if that helps me this cycle, though presumably by then only with the school where I've placed my deposit and/or waitlist schools. Was PT'ing in the low-mid 170s in the weeks leading up to the test but really underperformed day ofLadyProspero wrote:I know. I pretty much took it cold (twice). It really is a no brainer, I just overestimated my ability to beat the time constraint without drilling hard. It's literally almost 100% the time constraint, I guessed on like 5-7 per section without even having the time to read them. If I could finish the test I think I would do really well. Thanks for the encouragement
I guess I need to get the Cambridge packets. What did you guys use? I literally only used the powerscore bibles and course books.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
I've had a lot of difficulty with procrastination in my life so over the last couple of years I really made it a priority to squash the habit. For the most part I have succeeded. The way I looked at it, and the way I think you should look at it, is that if I'm procrastinating on studying for the LSAT or some other project then how can I ever expect to accomplish my other goals? If I can't study for the LSAT then how can I expect to study in law school?LadyProspero wrote:Yea I really need to. I tried a lot of gimmicks and different routines, but what I find the best is to just plan a regular block of time to do work and to make sure there are no distractions. I recommend simply planning to go to the library for an hour or two everyday, leave your phone at home, and to not allow yourself to leave or do anything else for that time (wandering around is fine, but nothing entertaining). You're far enough from the June LSAT that just an hour or two a day is all you need to be completely prepared. If you think you're capable of improving your score to around the 165 range you could be looking at a full ride and acceptances to a lot of higher ranked schools.
If you need to use the internet for studying then I recommend installing a browser extension to limit the total amount of time you can spend on distractions and to completely block websites you know you waste too much time on. I even rooted my phone so I could block webpages on it. Also, a library isn't necessary if you can setup a room in your house just for studying, but I find it crucial to have a separation between a work area and the rest of my life.
The nice thing about this is that there are days where I don't want to work and I waste the first 15 minutes just staring into space or fidgeting, but because I can't leave or do anything else, I eventually work. Basically my procrastination has nothing to distract and so it eventually goes away. Try this tonight!
You need to do the 20 tests from the two most recent LSAT books. Each section must be timed. Save the June, September, and December LSATs that aren't in the book for the weeks right before the test and try to take them with real LSAT conditions (5 sections, break after 3rd one). The powerscore logic games bible was good, but I recommend the Manhattan book for LR. I found it incredibly useful, and I was doubtful I really needed another book for LR since I had already done Mike's trainer. The Cambridge packets are incredibly helpful after you've done a few real preptests and need to improve on an area. I found I was very slow at grouping games so I bought all of the grouping games packets and drilled them and watched the 7sage explanations after my first attempt for each one. Even on easy games it was useful to see the problems worked by someone else because he would say when it was enough to move on from a question without checking the rest.LadyProspero wrote:It really is a no brainer, I just overestimated my ability to beat the time constraint without drilling hard. Honestly I found the hardest part with studying was spending enough time reviewing. It's good to take practice tests but circle every question where you aren't 100% sure of the answer. Eventually a pattern will emerge of the question types you are having trouble with. You may want to take one of the 3 most recent LSATs sooner. I found that when I went to look up answers on the Manhattan forums, nobody had asked a question about most of the ones I had missed. I took this to mean I was especially weak on these types of questions and drilled them.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
Thanks for the advice! That's solid. I've done similar things, in undergrad I would actually go to school more often than not to get things done rather than do it at home (I was a commuter), things never got done at home and if they did it wasn't very quick. It's an awful habit that's for sure but I like your methods, particularly the part about leaving your phone at home and blocking Internet and such. Thanks for the tips! I think I can manage to study an hour or two a day.TetrisBlock wrote:I've had a lot of difficulty with procrastination in my life so over the last couple of years I really made it a priority to squash the habit. @LadyP:
If you were guessing on over 20 questions of the test simply because of speed, there's nothing more to say. Re. Take.
I slightly disagree that June is sooo far away that you have "plenty of time". I'd say just enough time, barely. It helps that you have done some studying before but you really gotta kick it into gear with timed practice tests and completely change your approach to make an improvement. Right now you're not anywhere near your potential if guessing was that common.
I'd go so far as to say that, unless you can improve your timed PT best score by like 10 points by May, you might wanna defer and study all summer and retake in Sept/October (whenever the next one is) instead. The LSAT is that important. I had a similar GPA and got $$$$ from multiple schools but only because I worked really hard on PTs and did pretty well on the LSAT.
Bonus tip to all 0Ls: Do XL size PTs to build stamina. People often only do 4 or 5 sections at a time because the materials come that way, but consider doing 6+. Practice harder than the real one and you'll be so much faster and focused than you would be otherwise. I personally just did two of the 4 section PTs at a time with one half hour break between them. Dat stamina was tested. 3 and 3 with a break in between is good too.
Good luck!

Thanks Fiero! Yes it was a lot of guessing. I don't think I need technique as much as just speed. The main problem was I was getting through like 2.5 of the games, basically 2 then hitting the five minute warning. Getting all the ones I answered right but taking so long to do them. LR I'm actually really good at, but the best I've ever done is only guessing on 3 I didn't get to. I'll drill hard and get faster. Also need to learn to answer and move on.
Thanks for your tips! Also yes, Dobby.
