Thanks, have they let you know if there is any type of travel subsidy?

Yeah, there is. They cover up to $400 for flights from out of Calif. and $200 for flights within Calif. They also cover rides to and from the airport. I don't know about hotels.adameus wrote:WhiskeyGuy wrote:April 16-19.adameus wrote:when is ASW? I am hoping to get a decision before then, assuming it is not very soon.

Haha yeah or my gas money from SF. Maybe I can convert the flight $$ I'm not using into a subsidized room at the Westin or maybe like 8 rounds of golf.ConMan345 wrote:I wonder if they cover bike rides....

Exactly. It also looks like most/all of the meals are covered as well.crackberry wrote:Yeah, there is. They cover up to $400 for flights from out of Calif. and $200 for flights within Calif. If the schedule is similar to last year, the 16th is the minority preview and then ASW goes from the 17th-19th.

oh man, I played (for the first time ever) in a charity golf tournament on the Stanford course this past fall. It was actually really fun, and the course was beautiful. I liked the hole where your first drive has to clear the street at the bottom of the hill.crackberry wrote:Haha yeah or my gas money from SF. Gosh, I'm excited. I've played Yale's course, which is very nice. Now if I can get my handicap back down...ConMan345 wrote:oh man, I played (for the first time ever) in a charity golf tournament on the Stanford course this past fall. Re: In at Stanford!
Like I've said before, there are a few gimmicky holes on the front nine (#s 3 and 4 are back-to-back par 3s, which is pretty TTT, and #9 penalizes good drives and rewards mediocre ones), but the back nine is oh so glorious. #12 is one of my favorite holes on any course (I've played Pebble, Bethpage Black and Shinnecock) and the view from #18 tee is otherworldly.Kretzy wrote:Gosh, I'm excited. Re: In at Stanford!
I feel like a complete tool asking about this considering I am not even admitted, but I am in at Harvard and the only way I might not go there is if I'm in at Stanford. Given Stanford's past cycles I don't expect a decision from them for a while so I am trying to make my decision before hand so If I do end up getting accepted at Stanford I won't have to figure everything out then.
Anyways, what are the living options in Palo Alto? From what I can tell Stanford has a lot of residence options but what about for someone who is married? My research tells me that Palo Alto is one of the most expensive places to buy property in the US. Are rents very high as well? Does anyone have any experience as a married student, living on or off campus?

I can't speak to being married, but I have rented off campus.adameus wrote:I feel like a complete tool asking about this considering I am not even admitted, but I am in at Harvard and the only way I might not go there is if I'm in at Stanford. Yes, buying a home in Palo Alto is very expensive. You'd be hard pressed to find anything decent for under $800K. BUT, renting really isn't that bad. If you're hell-bent on living off campus and you're going to have a car, you could live anywhere from Sunnyvale to Redwood City and the commute wouldn't be bad and you'd find cheap rent. If you really want to live in Palo Alto, there are definitely some diamonds in the rough.
Also, you could always live on campus.

I had a great visit on Tuesday and definitely am more likely to attend than I was beforehand. Professor Sullivan's class was terrific, and she's an incredibly friendly person too.

On-campus couples housing is either Munger (brand new building, $1500 studio/1BA or $1960 1BR/1BA) or Escondido Village (older building, $1510 1BR/1BA), which includes all utilities. 1L's are guaranteed campus housing, and you have to enter the housing draw after that. You can find cheaper off-campus apartments in Menlo Park or Mountain View, but then you'd have to pay about $60/month for a parking pass. Rents are high in this area for a suburban location, but quite reasonable compared to NYC or DC.WhiskeyGuy wrote:adameus, a current SLS student says that on-campus housing can be pricey: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... &start=150adameus wrote:I feel like a complete tool asking about this considering I am not even admitted, but I am in at Harvard and the only way I might not go there is if I'm in at Stanford. Do we get a pass for "free" if we live in Munger? What pass is it? EA? Anyone else get an email from a current professor? They managed to put one of my legal idols in contact with me...I flipped out when I saw her name in my Inbox, and then again when I realized it wasn't a form letter.

I haven't received any e-mails from professors (other than Dean Kramer). I did, however, receive one from a current SLS student.

Nope, you have to pay for parking on campus. I think it's $230ish (don't quote me on that) for the year plus $30 for the month of August (because the year is September-June). I believe you get an EA permit from Munger -- most folks park in the Wilbur Field garage near the law school.crackberry wrote: Do we get a pass for "free" if we live in Munger? What pass is it? EA?
