If you are accepted after that deadline, I'm sure there will be a window where you can submit the essays. I wouldn't worry too much about it.lizzielemon wrote:keezmasterflex wrote:Submitted the scholarship essays! Time to sit back and wait (fingers crossed)!

Both are excellent law schools. In the end it really comes down to what you personally want. I was happier with the thought of practicing in Seattle than Minneapolis. I'd say they're both very strong in their regions, and at the time I was deciding between practicing on the west coast and the midwest. Also, because money/outcome made these two options really close for me, I ultimately had to go with which law school gave me a better vibe. It's relatively early in the waiting game, so I'd recommend visiting at least your 2 top choices. No need to go to every place you get in, but definitely make sure you're going to be happy for 3 years at your law school. It'll keep you sane during exam season.SlithyTove wrote:Thanks for the feedback mcmand! I haven't made any decisions yet, still trying to figure out the best course of action. Does this mean that I shouldn't send a LOCI? It may not be necessary, but is it still a good idea? I don't want to piss off the adcomms by sending them letters they specifically don't want but I also don't want to miss an opportunity to demonstrate my commitment. I couldn't find any clarifying information on the website so I'd love to hear thoughts from others on the waitlist or anyone who's been in a similar situation.
Thanks!
I say this as someone who got off the waitlist - I did a LOCI and had fresh new LORs from new people. Keep in mind you still may not hear until after the deposit deadline.
Addendum: Looking at your other posts, why do you want to do a LOCI if you're going to accept at Minnesota? Minnesota's a great law school, and if you're not deadset on UW, you're just taking up a spot on the waitlist for other students who really want it. If it's for scholarships, you won't get any, in all likelihood. By the time people come off the waitlists, scholarships have already been doled out and there aren't any more to give. Just some food for thought.
Jon, I second CJRpnw's question, I'd love to know what tipped the scales for you.

Anyone still waiting for a decision?
I just went complete 3/1 after the Feb score hit the file, and was told my file would go into review Friday. Submitted my app back in December.

Just WL by email!
Submitted 2/1
UR 2/12
GPA 2.5/LSAT 167
The email specifically says "The Admissions Committee has all the information necessary to make its final decisions – no additional documentations, letters of continued interest, or letters of recommendation are necessary." That's pretty clear, right? Anybody planning to ignore this and send a LOCI anyway?

It's certainly not necessary, and admissions won't really hold it against you imo. But they're also not stopping you from sending one right? Dean Le's a pretty nice guy. I doubt they'll be angry if you write one. Although, they probably don't want to see a rehash of your materials. If you wan to send one in, be sure it has some new information, or more clearly demonstrates your interest in UW law.capricasixx wrote:Just WL by email!

That's true, it does say "not necessary" rather than "please do not send any additional materials... My reading of the rules is that the school will not offer financial assistance to international students using state or federal funds. This should not preclude offering merit-based aid using private funding sources. Did you confirm with admissions or Dean Le?
ETA: I could definitely be wrong. You have most likely spent a lot more time than me researching this, since you are the international student, not me. I would just hate to have you make a decision to withdraw if it might be the case that private funding sources are available for merit.

I have not confirmed with UW yet. But it says on the school's financial aid page that " No scholarship, grant, or other aid is available through the University of Washington's Office of Student Financial Aid for foreign students." I figured merit-based scholarship is a kind of scholarship, so it's unlikely that I can get $$$ from UW. However, you made a good point. I will check with UW first before withdrawing.

Thank you for reminding me to check with the school. I received a reply today and you are right. UW doesn't offer $$$ to foreign students but law school does.
This is the reply from Dean Le: " Thanks for your email. The sentence is misleading in that though you may not receive grants, scholarships, or other aid through the University's main campus (Office of Student Financial Aid), you are (underscore) eligible to receive scholarships through the law school. We have separate funds and many of our international students are able eligible for scholarships."
Thank you again for helping out. This is also a lesson I learned that I have to be careful with wording in a document, especially when I want to be a lawyer.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
