Yeah, they're really fast. I got my admission packet the same day I received the welcome email.woodchuck78 wrote:They sent my admissions packet via Priority Mail, so you should receive it fairly quickly. Jezz, I applied round 1/3 and went complete shortly after and I haven't heard a peep. Either it's not looking good for me or it's effectively a "Held to Further Review" thing.

Does anyone know when we'll receive decisions about fellowships? I saw a previous post suggesting it would be in March.
However, I was specifically wondering if this is information that becomes available to us prior to our decision deadline.

OneBarToAnother wrote:No worries about the question. I am on a graduate fellowship (as are a vast majority of the out-of-state students). The amount of work varies slightly depending on your assignment. As a 1L you are required to complete 8 hours of work a week.woodchuck78 wrote: ...
If you don't mind me asking, are you on a fellowship? If so, so you find that it hindered your ability in activities at the school? Or if you aren't, do you know of others that are and was the workload so much that they couldn't do much outside of its requirements?
Most students split their required hours between an administrative office and the library. The library work consists of sitting at a reference desk. It is boring-- Upperclass students who want to use the reference librarians know better than to ask a 1L for help with a complicated research question, thus most of the time is spent just doing homework. But in law school, any designated time to accomplish reading for classes is a plus.
If you place with one of the specialized fellowships (CLCT, Virginia Coastal Policy, etc.) the work is more substantive and may take up a bit of your time. I did have one of those, but still found the time commitment easily manageable. I plugged the hours into my schedule like class time, and still managed to join a number of groups.
To be completely blunt, the fellowships really feel like an opportunity for the school to give additional money to students, without having to have a specific endowment or fund set aside as "scholarship money." The advisers recognize this, and really tailor the work to make sure it is not overwhelming. Once you are a 2L, it changes a bit, and as a research or teaching assistant for a faculty member, you may start having more work, but that is way down the road. And by then, you should have a handle on how to balance your time.
Hope this is helpful.
Thanks for the info! Quick question, the website says that the Law Library fellowship if for " highly qualified students with MLS Degree" is that degree actually required? I can't imagine there is even one person in every class who has a degree in Library Science in this era. Thanks!

I've been complete since 11/10.... wish they would make a decision! I am guessing I will find out sometime in March.

I actually sent an email asking a couple weeks ago and I was told the specific program fellowship decisions would be made at the end of February with the potential for more fellowship offers later in the spring. I don't know if that means they'll send them out, but I think it's safe to start looking for them soon!Bradsj wrote:Does anyone know when we'll receive decisions about fellowships? Sidenote: I went complete 2/18 and got my acceptance 2/23. Loving the fast turnaround and excited for my admissions packet!

Mine was sent on 2/13. It went complete on 2/19. Got admittance email an hour ago with $15k/yr for 3 years. But I will probably withdraw. So good luck guys.

Was just notified of the fellowship today. It's a $4,000 stipend in addition to the initial offer. Definitely put them back in the game for me.

Yes!!! Me too!! I went complete 1/7 and nothing! Guys, would it be super weird if I called or emailed someone to check on my status? Because what's the deal? It's not like I'm a stellar student, but so many people have heard back so quickly.bruceaquizzer1 wrote:Everyone else is getting accepted and here I am just waiting to hear anything.
