That's so helpful of you! I'm from Birmingham, but wasn't really sure where the cheapest/safest apartments were in Tuscaloosa. I don't think I'll have a roommate at first, but probably later. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Also has anyone received their scholarship package? I talked to Becca, and she mentioned probably late March to May?
Thanks!

You can find cheaper, but I know of several people who had good experiences with Midtown Condos. I think last time I checked it was around $575 per person for a 2bd/2bath with w&d in apartment. There are also some nice old houses in downtown Northport that aren't too expensive but those may be trickier to get. Check the UA Law 2018 class bc I think they add housing blurbs periodically and I believe older law students often pass down rental houses.dancer22 wrote:That's so helpful of you! I would steer clear of some of the places with more undergrads like Crimson Student Living bc they can be loud and the construction there is a little shoddy.

Just had my status date changed to 4/1 but nothing else was updated. Anyone had this happen to them/know what it means?

Wrong thread -- but if any current Alabama Law student (roll tide) is on the forum, any chance you know Pual Horwitz and what his reputation is as a teacher? In other words, engaging in class or super boring? Hard or easy exams? Clear in presentation and organization? Etc.
Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer. Thanks!

Just got an email waiving the fee and giving me a $30 worth of I tunes. They also said there is NO application deadline. A bit strange is Bama having trouble? I sort of expected this school to be difficult for a state school to get into and have alot of apps, given how popular this place is in Alabama

Alabama seems to be competing directly with Vandy and Emory for students. I also have reason to suspect there is some serious donor money going into the school. So maybe they are "going for it".Calbears123 wrote:Just got an email waiving the fee and giving me a $30 worth of I tunes. They also said there is NO application deadline. Ancedotally, Vandy seems to be reaching low; I know a couple of people with LSATs in the 150's who were accepted to Vandy. It correlates with the general trend of increased competitiveness between LS's for a smaller pool of obstensibly less qualified candidates. U of AL has an exceptional admissions team, so they are being very adaptable.......times are a'changing.

Last minute applied to this cycle yesterday...is the consensus that decisions have been made slowly?

I have gone and yes gotten the tshirts for the family
Also have housing info on the "apartments" on the Crimson bus lines. Two places downtown almost all filled up. The Lofts has places but a FIFO parking garage. New construction coming but didn't look in time for Fall 2015.
There was another near condos that was so undergrad they actually said I would need a sponsor on a lease

Wow!
So basically if I get in I will have to commute 3 hours to get to school each day? Sounds awesome.

Re: University of Alabama C/O 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Not at all
Lots of local options and then all of Birmingham is a quick few exits down the Interstate. And then there are lots of options for house rentals. I just have a preference for the bus to be available on bad weather days. That unfortunately seems to coincide with a lot of undergrad housing options
After the fun hurdles of making a final decision and first deposit, housing is my decision point. I don't want to find something 45 mins away because I putted around. That also influences how long I can stand against the wall of the Gym during the Friday night dance waiting for a pretty girl to build up the courage to ask me to dance
My oldest has a now 2L from her HS who got WL'd at GW. He opted to take a spot at a school living with family and no lease. When he got a seat in August he jumped. After my time in AL and two campus visits this year, I am confident that the greater metropolitan Tuscaloosa housing market won't have many options that late within walking distance to the law school
As I write this I am watching Star Wars IV and its at the cantana scene. Robot chicken really ruined that scene for me. The architect getting drunk and losing his arm

Is this Tuscaloosa you are talking about? You could be in another state in under 3 hours.... I must have missed something here. If someone has a housing question though, feel free to PM me.justabitunusual wrote:Wow!So basically if I get in I will have to commute 3 hours to get to school each day? Sounds awesome.
FWIW - I would not commute from Birmingham unless you have a compelling reason to do so (like a spouse who works there)

Yeah I was mostly jk based on Stor's comment on the housing filling up so fast. I haven't actually been accepted yet, as I applied just last week (hoping for a "Hail Mary" acceptance and scholly, lol). So, when/if i am accepted I will prob go take a tour and may have actual better questions thenzippernicus wrote:Is this Tuscaloosa you are talking about? Turned in my Certification of Intent to Becca at the end of last week. I cannot say enough good things about their admissions staff. Looks like I will be moving to the south! Who else will be attending in the fall? I don't see anyone else on the Destinations thread.

"Pending Final Committee Decision"... does anyone know how long a wait before I receive a decision from now on? Should it be today, tomorrow?
Bama has me waiting seemingly forever.
