When do folks start getting in off the waitlist? I know you can hear practically up until classes start, but when could we start getting in?

Previous posts asked about merit scholarship notification. I just received an email with mine.

I just received mine as well. It makes it more affordable than WUSTL. I'm not sure what I should do since I'll probably end up practicing in Georgia if I don't get a big law job. WUSTL would give me a better shot at big law, although at a slightly higher cost. If I don't get big law, I don't know if a UGA degree would be significantly better than a WUSTL degree in Georgia. I still have time to think about it. I just wish their ASW weren't on the same date.

It says in the email the tuition for 2014-15 is $19,140 so it looks like it's only around a 2.5% increase. That's pretty reasonable. For WUSTL, assuming no change to their annual 5% tuition increase, I have to factor in an extra $2000 and $4000 for the second and third year.

Just received a merit scholarship offer from UGA as well. Oddly, WUSTL would be cheaper for me than UGA with their respective scholarships factored in. Funny how opaque the process can be.

Coming from a current student - outside of going to a T14 school, if you plan on practicing in GA, go to school in GA. If you don't, don't. There are more opportunities than just biglaw at OCI (some midlaw and small firms come as well, though of course not as many), there's stuff like the defense/prosecutorial clinics, and almost every firm has one or more (or many) UGA alumni. If you want to practice in a certain state, go there, make your contacts there.TetrisBlock wrote:I just received mine as well. It makes it more affordable than WUSTL. Except if you get in to Harvard. Then you should go to Harvard.

I loved UGA when I visited two years ago, but I have received much better scholarships from two peer schools that would probably be better for me to attend. Good luck to all of you!

I know most schools aren't particularly generous with merit aid when it comes to ED and waitlist admits. Can anyone comment on UGA's aid distribution? I've looked at LSN, but it's kind of spotty info.

I'm sure I am not the only one who applied to both Georgia and Emory Law. I just noticed that their Open House Events are on the same Saturday (3/28), and Emory's runs all day (UGA starts at 1:30pm). Anyone else finding themselves in this pickle?

Hey guys, I hadn't been on here in a long time and decided to drop in. I graduated from UGA Law this past May. I had a great time, and really enjoyed Athens. I remember how much I thought the law school application process sucked when I went through it, and I'm sure some of you feel the same. So I thought I might be of service to some of you. If you have questions about UGA Law, law school in general, or anything else law-related feel free to ask!

Can you give any insight to the employment prospects at UGA? Did you and your friends generally feel good/ get the kind of jobs you were looking for?

I see UGA students doing really well in Atlanta, but I wanted to ask whether you felt you had options outside the state as well. I love Atlanta, but I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to a career here.jarv1506 wrote:Hey guys, I hadn't been on here in a long time and decided to drop in. I graduated from UGA Law this past May. The employment prospects are good. For the most part people got into the different fields they were hoping for. I have friends in Big Law, Federal Clerkships, Gov't work, boutiques, etc. If you want to stay in Georgia the job prospects are excellent because the alumni network is very large, and very loyal. My friends who didn't get an offer after 2L summer found the types of jobs they were looking for relatively easily during 3L. Not everyone gets a job through the 2L summer pipeline, but I don't have any unemployed or underemployed friends either. The economy still isn't great, and you might have to work a little harder to find a job than people did in the early and mid 2000's, but the jobs are there.liberalartslawyer wrote:Can you give any insight to the employment prospects at UGA? You definitely have options outside the state, although not as many as you would in the Atlanta market. I have friends working in NY, DC, Houston, Richmond, Philadelphia, Seattle, Tampa, Dallas, Jacksonville, LA and other cities. However, unless you go to a Top-10 school your job prospects outside of the state where you go to school will usually be a bit more limited. This partly due to the fact in other cities, other law schools will have better and larger alumni bases. DC and NY are exceptions because pretty much every school has alumni in those cities. If you don't want to work in Atlanta you can let the career services people know and they can put you in touch with UGA alumni in wherever it is you want to work. It is also a good idea to get a 1L summer job in that city so you can start networking. It is certainly easier to get a job in the ATL market, but there are definitely options across the US if you want them.universityof wrote:I see UGA students doing really well in Atlanta, but I wanted to ask whether you felt you had options outside the state as well. Submitted my application recently, it went under review on February 20th. Any idea of when I will hear something? LSAT is 169, GPA is 3.01.

Re: University of Georgia Law c/o 2018
Has anyone else received their scholarship information yet? I see up thread some people got emails on 2/13.
Georgia mentioned in the tuition equalizer email that they would start sending out merit scholarship information the week of 2/15 so I'm curious to see if more people have gotten this info.
Would it be in bad form to shoot them an email asking about this?
Thanks!
