Re: University of Houston Law Center c/o 2018 Applicants
I was accepted off WL 3 years ago at beginning of May. Was offered $5k/yr and in-state tuition (despite the fact that I'm lifelong resident and they had previously confirmed my residency). After pointing out the error, the offer stood at $5k, which was on par with SMU's COA at the time.
$ offer came about 10-14 days after admission offer.

It basically said that they will be reviewing a first/initial group of waitlist applicants and wanted to know if i was still interested and wanted to be considered first. It gave a deadline of Wednesday to let them know if I wanted to be in that batch and said they expect to give decisions on those applicants over the next two weeks.FirmBiz wrote:I didn't, did it say anything important?BigCityDreams wrote:Anyone else receive the email about the Waitlist today? Oh ok, thanks. I assume it's only for a select group of students or it would have been sent to everyone.BigCityDreams wrote:It basically said that they will be reviewing a first/initial group of waitlist applicants and wanted to know if i was still interested and wanted to be considered first. Law School Numbers (most of the cited scholarships will be for all 3 years; you can click on individual users to see if they were in-state or not)Rstein888 wrote:Does anybody have any idea what the higher side of scholarship amounts that they give out is? Thanks yall

From what i've seen, for the most part we're talking 25-30k at most, 10k seems to be around the usual amount they give outRstein888 wrote:Does anybody have any idea what the higher side of scholarship amounts that they give out is? Thanks yall

Congratulations!! When were you wait-listed? I was placed on the wait list in early March, visited campus, attended a meet and greet at a local college closer to my home, and submitted an LOCI plus an updated letter of recommendation and my most recent transcripts on May 1st, but I never even received that e -mail.

Thank you! I was waitlisted on February 20th. My LSAT was at the 25th but my GPA was higher than the 75th and I'm an URM. I also submitted a LOCI before being pulled from the waitlist.zavi1022 wrote:celvreal wrote:I got the same email and was accepted yesterday via email! I have commitment deadlines with scholarships at other law schools, but I have my heart completely set on UH.
Waitlists are truly frustrating. I love UH but my heart is set on UT (which I'm waitlisted at) so I feel your pain to an extent! Good luck! I hope you get in!

How large/small was the gap between your last lOCI and their decision?celvreal wrote:Thank you! I was waitlisted on February 20th. I did not initially send in a LOCI. I sent one in immediately after receiving the email for select waitlist candidates on Friday May 1 and then I was accepted on Tuesday May 5.FirmBiz wrote:How large/small was the gap between your last lOCI and their decision?celvreal wrote:Thank you! I forgot to mention this, did you apply for PT or FT?
Does anyone know if the wait list is separate for each or if it's just one waiting list? Has anyone who applied for PT received an offer of admission or any email in general from admissions lately?

That's wonderful! I hope you get into UT since its your dream school. UH would be perfect for me because I just graduated yesterday with an M.S. in bioethics and I have literally zero interest in studying healthcare law in the other cities/states which have top-ranked healthcare law programs. Houston all the way! It's close to home and has great hospital law opportunities.

I hope you get in! Make sure you reiterate that in your LOCI's and send in your (hopefully stellar) updated transcript!zavi1022 wrote:celvreal wrote:Thank you! I was waitlisted on February 20th. Accepted off the waitlist at UT! I'll be withdrawing from Houston so I hope that opens up a spot for someone who really wants it!

Is anyone looking for housing? I need to rent out the second bedroom in the 2/1 house I'm renting, w/in walking distance of the school. PM me if you're interested.

Current student here again, now a 3l whoo. As people are finalizing decisions or getting ready for the year feel free to ask me anything. For example, you may want to strongly consider the east garage for parking! Working in a couple places in a specialty this summer. Have one boutique sa and one small firm so I have some experience with the variety of employment options UH can offer. And I am around during the year if you start thinking of questions then instead.
