Is that so? Now that you mention it, some canadian guy was talking about this in some other thread iirc... would make zero sense, but then again that has never prevented anything from being the casejames.bungles wrote:Internationals aren't counted towards URM numbers regardless of their race, isn't that right?hereisonehand wrote:'cause all foreigners are white or asian amiritejames.bungles wrote:If ur international ur not URM (for law school purposes, I'm not saying you're not an actual minority or whatever)

I think I saw on the Spivey thread that they count... their thread is so long though too lazy to find it again hahajames.bungles wrote:Internationals aren't counted towards URM numbers regardless of their race, isn't that right?hereisonehand wrote:'cause all foreigners are white or asian amiritejames.bungles wrote:If ur international ur not URM (for law school purposes, I'm not saying you're not an actual minority or whatever)

Has everyone been submitting school-specific LORs? I know they strongly prefer them...just curious if everyone actually does it.

Re: Stanford Law School c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Gotcha! I'm gonna try to have two of my recommenders submit a Stanford-specific letter. One has already agreed, but I haven't asked the other (who did go to Stanford, but only as an undergrad) and am hesitant since I didn't ask in the first place. He already submitted a generic letter a while ago, but at the time, I didn't believe that I would do well enough on my LSAT retake to even justify asking him to write a Stanford letter. Kicking myself now.whompwhomp wrote:one of my recs was school-specific... but only to the extent that "your law school" was replaced with SLS ;P

I also hate to keep waiting to apply since it seems like Stanford takes forever/rejects a lot the later you wait to apply.

I got my recommenders to do it. Don't know what one of them did, but one told me she compared me to former students who'd gone to SLS. Can't hurt, right?hillz wrote:Has everyone been submitting school-specific LORs? I know they strongly prefer them...just curious if everyone actually does it.
It's so weird that SLS does this though. Vaguely YP-y.

I can't get the one on the website to work, but if I follow the link in the status checker email it works fine, no idea why.lc39 wrote:Anyone else having problems logging into the status checker right now?

What % of people who are accepted submitted targeted LORs do you think?

If you google "stanford law status checker", it directs you to the "advanced degree programs" status checker: https://www.law.stanford.edu/degrees/ad ... atus-checkantiworldly wrote:I can't get the one on the website to work, but if I follow the link in the status checker email it works fine, no idea why.lc39 wrote:Anyone else having problems logging into the status checker right now?
What you want is to either go through the email they sent or to go to their JD admissions and then click on 'Application status check'
I was confused too.

Good question, I would love to know this. I wonder just how much of a bump it might give you.twitterati wrote:What % of people who are accepted submitted targeted LORs do you think?

I suspect that it has a ton to do with YP!everything_bagel wrote: I got my recommenders to do it. Don't know what one of them did, but one told me she compared me to former students who'd gone to SLS. Can't hurt, right?

Based on the angle of the pen it looks like she was getting ready to write my name down.

Does SLS do pure rolling or mixed (better applicants at the top).

I did, but don't know if it actually helped. Most people, I would garner, did not, so if you don't have a targeted LOR, I wouldn't stresstwitterati wrote:What % of people who are accepted submitted targeted LORs do you think?

I think that if you *can* submit a targeted letter (with more than just the pasting Stanford Law School in the place of law school), it can't hurt - but it definitely won't help you much if your recommenders don't have anything Stanford-specific to say.
