Sorry if this has been asked already but does the status checker update simultaneously with an email or is it a just status checker update when a decision is made?

Status checker is way more useless till the end of the cycle than it is right now. You will most unlikely get the results from the status checker, rather, it will only show "Decision" instead of straightforward "admit" or "deny". You will only have to find out by 1) trying to log in the Admitted Students Website and praying that you can OR 2) checking the mail in your mailbox. Dean Z said they wanted to *surprise* you.

Oh NO.. not this all over again...
I put my LSAT book in the yard for Halloween. It was the scariest thing I could think of.
That being said, I still want my results asap.

mail mailbox it is. At least that's what happened in the past couple of years. Maybe Dean Z would cut this crap this year.

So the best way would still be trying to check via ASW after your status changes to "Decision". According to the past information, the first wave should be pretty soon. Everybody good luck!

I'm really getting anxious about going complete. Michigan is slowly grabbing the top spot on my list of schools.

Lets hope its not mail mail box. I can't think of anything worse than going home for thanksgiving break and finding out that my decision has been mailed but not being able to know till I come back to school...

I thought last year's thread says that the first wave for both ED and RD went out initially via status checker? I could be way off base, though.

w0w- I think everyone is going off of this quote of yours...idk where its from tho.
Actually it was me who wrote that lol. I remember I read it somewhere in the c/o 2017 applicant thread. Some 1L mentioned this and a lot of applicants confirmed. But I may be terribly wrong as well... Just wait and see

SORRY guys, my fault. Just went through the c/o 2017 thread again. They did status checker first and then emailed, then mailed.

Here's the timeline for some of the applicants in the last cycle:
Complete(RD): 10/12. Decision: 11/1
Complete(ED): 10/14. Decision: 11/1
Complete(RD): 10/17. Decision: 11/9
Submitted(ED): 10/23. Complete: 10/31. Decision: 11/15
Complete: 11/7. Decision: 11/15 (this one was a real quick turnaround)

I submitted on 10/23, got my status checker on 10/28, complete 10/29. I'll keep my info updated!
Magical Friday is COMING
