Provisionally admitted! What does this mean? Is this essentially an acceptance? I wonder what the percentage of folks who are provisionally admitted who get an official letter of admission is.

"I am very pleased to inform you that you have been provisionally admitted to Duke Law School. The Admissions Committee was impressed with your many achievements and believes that your application demonstrates a high potential for success. Congratulations! I sincerely hope you will elect to join the Duke Law Class of 2018.prospectivelaw2018 wrote:Provisionally admitted! What does this mean? Is this essentially an acceptance? The next step in our admissions process is an interview with an admissions officer via Skype. In December, we will send you information about how to schedule your session. Interviews will be available beginning in January, 2015. Although we expect, based on the strength of your application materials, that you will be officially admitted following your interview, we encourage you to approach the interview with care. Effective oral communication is an important skill for lawyers to master, and information gathered in the interview will be used to reach a final decision on your application, and may also be used, in part, to determine your eligibility for merit-based scholarships."

There's almost no point in applying priority track. If they gave you a scholarship offer, then at least you would have something tangible. Essentially you find out that you will probably be admitted whenever they begin to make actual admissions decisions.xylocarp wrote:(provisionally) admitted! interviews aren't until December/January though so nothing official until then

you're being kind of a Debbie downer about it, but you're right. it seems to serve about the same function as the undergrad "likely letter"LSATneurotic wrote:There's almost no point in applying priority track. Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Yeah... This kind of ruins PT for me.. The whole point of PT was the possibility of having an offer early in the cycle. A 'provisional offer' is not a real offer even if it's couched in terminology that implies a high chance of a real offer. Shame - it was a really good idea originally.

Provisional or not I still thinks it's super cool and I am jealous. Congrats Xylo! The start of a great cycle I'm sure.

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
My thoughts exactly! I wouldn't mind it if the provisional admits were accompanied with a list of September interview dates-- making you wait until January defeats the purpose of a quick admissions decision. I do like that the scholarship offer comes after the interview, though. It kind of suggests that a strong interview can effect your grant $$$.suppy183 wrote:Yeah... This kind of ruins PT for me.. There is something to be said for a little early momentum.MidwestLifer wrote:Provisional or not I still thinks it's super cool and I am jealous. Congrats Xylo! The start of a great cycle I'm sure.

So even though I applied "priority track" I'll be finding out if I actually got in after people who applied early through the regular process.

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Congrats y'all!
I think the bitterness about PT is kinda unwarranted. Feel proud of your accomplishment and enjoy it for a moment! It's not Duke's job to hand you an early acceptance no strings attached and for all we know they are WL'ing fewer people and admitting more provisionally, so you might not have been in otherwise. Just think of it as an opportunity to rock the interview and get yourself some $. I don't think there is any reason to view this as less than a very likely acceptance unless, I dunno, you're terrible.
Besides, You Knew This Was Coming when you signed up and if you're good enough to get Duke PT, aren't you in it for the $ more than just the acceptance?

Oh haha. No I don't think I've ever of such a thing, but the thought process is that they offer PT invites to top candidates -> over medians (and 75ths) -> $$$.
