I've got a somewhat similar background. My LSAT is also 160+ but with a poor undergrad GPA. I have a STEM background with 5+ years work/grad school experience as a biochemist. I also haven't heard back despite submitting my application in late October.pketpket wrote:The looooong message is still showing up at the top of my status checker page; went complete early December.
I am an "In- Stater" born and raised in NC. Regardless I have like a 1% chance with my GPA even though I probably get a slight boost for being a female engineer with a STEM major and 5+ work years as an engineer. My LSAT is 160+ but not killer impressive. I applied expecting a ding right away. I am surprised they have been holding on to my application so long, but I am keeping my fingers crossed (and toes). Anyone else out there in a similar situation (non-traditional engineer)? Has UNC been sending out mostly acceptances during their rolling admissions and not rejections so far?
Everyone, Good Luck!

It's the best state in the world but I'll have to wait a few more years to call it home.

Re: UNC c/o 2017 (2013-2014)
I have not. I though LOCI were just for those wait listed. Has anyone been wait listed for UNC this cycle? I have been avoiding the temptation of dropping by the admissions office so that I do not annoy them. I live 15 minutes away so the temptation is great. I already did the mini tour and class sit-in last Fall so hopefully they understand that indicates my interest already. I am worried writing a LOCI or visiting the admin office would just hurt my chances. I feel I already provided a strong positive impression. At this point it wouldn't be my personal statement or expressed personal interest in UNC that would prevent them from accepting me. It is a numbers game and there nothing I can do about the numbers at this point. Now if I find out I am wait listed I may just start camping out there on a regular basis. Since I already live so close I could probably hold out until two weeks before class starts, but after that it would be too late notice for my place of work since I work for the government.

Yea I wouldn't write an LOCI unless you get wait listed. A batch of releases came out at the end of February last year so we might hear news soon.

Nothing, Nada, Zenzen
I got a call from UNC last night, got really excited and then realized it was from the MPA program and not the law school. My face was the picture of disappointment and let down hope.

Yanky91, Is UNC a top choice for you even without money? So many have given up on UNC due to low scholly offers, but you sound super excited! As a local I can say if you applied and got into Wake Forrest also, UNC has a way better reputation.Yanky91 wrote:I went complete Jan 13. If you are in the boat of deciding between the two my general advice: UNC 0$ >>>> Wake $$$. Especially if you want to practice in NC or the South as a region. The Alumni network is just so important and UNC stands out in NC as having the premiere network for newbie law grads. This is in general not for any specific field of law.

Re: UNC c/o 2017 (2013-2014)
UNC is a great school no doubt, but you would have to be out of your mind to go there without a scholarship. The only way I would consider UNC is with close to a full ride. I have a full ride to UIUC, Cardozo, and close to a full ride to Wake. If it came down to Wake and UNC, I would choose whichever costs less. UNC is a better school, but not enough to justify paying that much more.pketpket wrote:Yanky91, Is UNC a top choice for you even without money?
