Now is about the time to be looking. Where have you looked? Focus your search on West Benton Street, Myrtle, and the roads the offshoot from these between Riverside Drive and Mormon Trek Boulevard.Pineoneer wrote:So I have been looking for housing already and I can't find much. Not sure what 120k is at USC, but if you get an RA position at Iowa for 2L/3L, you're get in-state tuition, which 79k would cover I think.

Where do you want to work? In almost all situations, the absolute choice is USC.uconjak wrote:Quick question....WHat would you take. 79K at iowa or 120K at usc.....

Just got an email from the school saying this
Geez. I'd say applications are down this year, eh?The Office of Admissions has decided to extend the application deadline to June 1, 2013. Our standard deadline for application is March 1. However, we want to give law school prospects who take the February Law School Admission Test enough time to submit applications for admission, if desired. Also, there may be some individuals who have decided, late in the admission cycle, to consider attending law school. So, the College of Law has decided to extend the application deadline to June 1.

A lot of places did it last year too, so it's not too surprising. I expect a lot more will do this in the next 2 weeks.chrisbru wrote:That appears to be the caseromanticegotist wrote:Just got an email from the school saying this

I'm going to ask for merit aid by leveraging my 25% tuition scholarship to UIUC. Should I send it via snail mail? I emailed law-finaid about whom I should direct the request towards, and they invited me to make a phone appointment with Collins Byrd. What would you 1Ls and beyond do?

I just received my initial letter congratulating me. There was no scholarship info in it, just saying that I'll receive more details shortly. It included a nice handwritten note from the dean.
Will scholly info come in a later package?

So you think because you go the maximum scholarship available, this friend doesn't deserve to get that too? Iowa may not be the best fit for you breh.uconjak wrote:Suprised me with so much money. same i got with a 168/3.9. Seemed a little high.chrisbru wrote:Sounds about right. But seriously. That's the maximum scholarship. I know it seems like a wide range of numbers that get offered it, but that's because all of those exceed the criteria for getting that scholarship. The truth of this matter is that your numbers are too high for Iowa, so if you "appropriate" scholarship divestment that fits with your mental image, you should be in the WUSTL/Michigan/UT threads.
Not trying to be a dick, but I hate when people diminish other people's exciting news because they are "better" but got something "equal."
It's been a while since we discussed this, so I'll give a little more detail than exactly what you asked. Iowa tries to get acceptances out ASAP so you know if it is one of your options. Scholarship info comes later (if it comes), but that time can vary. If you are a top-tier scholarship candidate, you may know within a week or two. If not, the scholarships "trickle down" as the higher "index" (seegoCATSgo wrote:I just received my initial letter congratulating me. ETA: If you want to post your numbers or PM them to me or Typ3, we can help you figure out where you fall as far as scholarship likelihood.
ETA: Whoops, I guess it was last years thread that had the index stuff. Link above. How time flies when you're having... fun? Yeah. We'll go with that.

EDIT: DISCLAIMER - THIS INFORMATION WAS PUT TOGETHER BY A STUDENT THAT WAS NOT ME, AND IS NOT EMPLOYED BY THE UNIVERSITY. AS SUCH, THIS INFORMATION IS COMPLETELY UNCONFIRMED AND PURELY SPECULATIVE.
I'll go ahead and put this here actually. The lowest recorded index for full scholarships seems to decline each year. I'd wager that this is due to shrinking applicant pools.:
Univ. Iowa Index Calculation:
(LSAT*.876) + (GPA*9.621) -.407 = Index
Maximum 195.77
GPA % 19.62
Taken from Iowa 2011 Thread---
Last Year in 2010 27 Full rides were recorded on LSN
Lowest Recorded Index For Full Tuition Merit In Years Past:
2005: 179.8168
2006: 178.83448
2007: 178.10524
2008: 179.8168
2009: 177.79639
2010: 177.67474

Nope. They offer the occasional no-stip, but only a few per class. All of the ones that I know about besides Typ3 are diversity scholarships. And maybe Typ3 is a URM and I can't tell, who knows.dykstaab wrote:

Re: University of Iowa Class of 2016
I'd like to point out two things:
1) Everything I post is my opinion. While my opinion is an educated one, do not take what I say as absolute confirmed truths. If you have questions that you need exact answers to, your best bet is to contact the financial aid department or admissions at the University of Iowa College of Law.
2) It has come to my attention that administration is at least aware of, and has viewed, this thread. I do not know if they actively view this thread, nor do I care to speculate. However, I figured it was only fair for incoming students that they be aware of this.

Geez. I withdrew like 2 weeks ago and they're still sending me stuff. I just got an email from a professor and a letter in my mailbox. Guess they don't know how to take a hint...?
