Re: Minnesota c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Based on the graph at LSN and the fact that applications are down again this year it looks like Minnesota is trying to maintain its medians, at least for the LSAT, by cutting class size. Perhaps when they find out December exams aren't what they hoped and people get into higher ranked schools they'll dip deeply into the wait list. I still wouldn't go, though.

UMN 2L here. I can confirm that a lot of transfers get in here. Something like 40 joined my class (2014) for 2L year.

yes the new strategy seems to be to decrease initial class size then let in more transfers. Disappointing that they let in so many but I'd rather have this then go down in the rankings.kd5 wrote:UMN 2L here. I can confirm that a lot of transfers get in here. Do you feel like transfers could affect your employment outcomes in a significant way? That's something like a 15% increase in class size.minnbills wrote:yes the new strategy seems to be to decrease initial class size then let in more transfers. I don't know, I hope not. I think the U is admitting more and more foreign students though, particularly from Korea and China, and they all seem to want to go back, so that helps.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Do you feel like transfers could affect your employment outcomes in a significant way? Just got my acceptance letter in the mail and was offered full tuition and university fees with the 2.5 GPA stipend. So excited!
My numbers are LSAT: 170 and GPA: 3.9 for anyone who's interested.
Good luck everyone

Re: Minnesota c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
It really depends on demographics of the incoming transfers, which I'm not privy to. A lot of the international students I know do plan to return to their home countries. Some transfers are from the other three Twin Cities law schools (Hamline, St. Thomas, & William Mitchell), but some are surely students who really wanted to stay in (or return to) the Twin Cities but had to go to other states for 1L and are now back and back to stay.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Do you feel like transfers could affect your employment outcomes in a significant way? I don't think transfers were much of a presence at our OCI - I was at almost all of the receptions and initial screenings (they put up lists with students' names/times next to the interview rooms during initial screenings), and I recognized pretty much everybody. For jobs at smaller firms, PI, etc. I think they'd be more of a factor.

$16,000/yr, just need to keep up above a 2.5 GPA. Surprised, as I am below both medians. I love you, UMN.
Edit: 162, 3.76, non-URM.

Woah, weren't you just admitted this week? Now I'm going to be waiting for the mailman in the bushes on Monday.bettercallsaul91 wrote:$16,000/yr, just need to keep up above a 2.5 GPA. Surprised, as I am below both medians. I love you, UMN.

~3.75 may very well be their median target for next year, with the app decline and all. Hope to see you in the fall!bettercallsaul91 wrote:$16,000/yr, just need to keep up above a 2.5 GPA. Surprised, as I am below both medians. I love you, UMN.

Yup! I was just admitted three days ago. But I live in San Francisco ... mail tends to get here very quickly.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Woah, weren't you just admitted this week? And thanks Nova! Current UMN students all seem so friendly and I just love the vibe of the school so far. I've heard great things about the faculty, too. UMN has EXACTLY clinics I'm looking for, my favorite journal, like 8 student orgs I want join ... yeah, I'm totally in love. It would be nice to have a change of pace, too ... I love California and all, but I wouldn't mind having some seasons ... and feeling like I'm making more of an impact with political activism than I do here.
Also, I think it's fate. My SO's nickname for me for the last four years has been 'Dinky.' I hear there is this place near UMN called 'Dinkytown' lol.

Yeah. It seems, at least according to the one person who report this week, that they were snail mailed right away this time. Expect it soon. I'm assuming the reason I haven't gotten mine yet is because our mail runs really early in the morning, so everything gets here a day later than usual.Charlie.Home wrote:In via phone, did you find out about scholly in snail mail?

The person A few posts above only waited three days. I'm hoping this means I get my letter Monday before I leave town. Sunny- I would like to, but both their ASWs overlap with other ASWs that I would like to attend so I'm not sure. I'm also really poor right now so I need to decide how many of these things I can attend. Are you going? I hope you get a good scholarship, I'm sure they are going to want that LSAT!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
