Question for those who did an on-campus interview: What's proper attire (for a guy)? Do I need a suit, or just khakis and a collared shirt?

Don't forget underwear. They can't really see it, but you wouldn't want anything to go awry.teiswei wrote:+1shntn wrote:Suit.Gunslinger125 wrote:Question for those who did an on-campus interview: What's proper attire (for a guy)? Do I need a suit, or just khakis and a collared shirt?

Had my interview with an alumni today. It was awesome! Both scores are below median but retook LSAT in December. Heres hoping soft factors actually do matter. Good luck everyone!!

Nothing like VPL in some nice dress pants to get things going.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Don't forget underwear. Just finished up the interview ... lasted an hour and a half! x_x Totally unintentional - my interviewer was just so amazing! Super fun to talk to, shared several laughs. Really sold me on Vanderbilt. Want it more now than ever before. Sadly, with my numbers, I worry I'm in for some extra heartbreak. Love you anyway, Vandy ...

I refuse to believe that this was on the west coast and assume you just went out on a datebettercallsaul91 wrote:Just finished up the interview ... lasted an hour and a half! x_x Totally unintentional - my interviewer was just so amazing! Yup, west coast. My interviewer noticed the address on my resume was in her neighborhood so we just met up at our neighborhood Starbucks. I was pretty nervous at first, but it quickly became casual and felt like talking to a good friend. Learned about fun things like Law School Prom and professors auctioning dinner, scotch, and cigars with them to raise money for public interest stipends ... got a super impression of Vanderbilt law students ... ahh I want Vandy so badRuxin1 wrote:I refuse to believe that this was on the west coast and assume you just went out on a datebettercallsaul91 wrote:Just finished up the interview ... lasted an hour and a half! x_x Totally unintentional - my interviewer was just so amazing! Good luck! I'm really hoping for waitlist too ... so I can send in a stellar Why Vandy ... I didn't get to tell them how much I loved them in my apphelpplease wrote: My exact same situation. Here's hoping for the wait list at least!

Did your interviewer by any chance mention how much they weigh the interview in their admissions decision?bettercallsaul91 wrote:Good luck! Not really ... you? If anything, she started off the interview telling me not to stress, that the interview is casual and it isn't so much about me trying to impress her, as it is a chance for her to tell me about the school and answer any questions I have so I can get a sense if the school is a good fit for me.helpplease wrote: Did your interviewer by any chance mention how much they weigh the interview in their admissions decision?
Also, FWIW, instead of starting with 'Why law?' (as I was anticipating), she started with 'Why Vandy?' and then asked how my work experiences and studies have led me towards wanting to become a lawyer. Little bit of a curveball there. Seemed like most other people started with 'Why law?' then 'Why Vandy?' then 'How do you see your future?' so I typed out a practice narrative last night answering questions in that order

No, he didn't mention it at all, but I am very curious to know how much they actually care about alumni's opinions. What he did mention though was that both him and his wife (who was in the same class as him) were both waitlisted. That gives me hopebettercallsaul91 wrote:Not really ... you? And that's interesting--I guess my interviewer did the regular 'why law' then 'why vanderbilt' order.

FWIW, a good friend of mine was WL last cycle with a 158 -> 160/3.82. She applied late as well, so I wouldn't count yourself outbettercallsaul91 wrote:Just finished up the interview ... lasted an hour and a half! x_x Totally unintentional - my interviewer was just so amazing! ETA: She never pursued the WL with loci or anything because she decided on another school, so I'm not sure what her movement would have been. Overall though, bless her heart, she's just a plain old white girl with no WE and a lot of ho hum life experiences.

Decision mailed date, 12/11!!!
The consensus on this is that at this point it's most likely an admit, right? I don't want to get my hopes up too high.

According to the graph from last cycle, they didn't send out any rejections until january. The graph from 2009-2010 has a lot of waitlists and a few rejections earlier between mid-December and January but I'm pretty sure that was when Vandy still had their early admission program.

Re: Vanderbilt c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
Had my interview yesterday; went just fine. Quick questions though.
Do I need to inform vandy that i had my interview? I already put the interview date on my virtual vls thing
Should I send a thank you note or email to my interview?
What's my timeline from here? Submitted on 11/20, complete 11/26, interview 12/11. Just wondering when I should be expecting something.

If you put the interview date on the VULS portal, you're all set. I didn't do anything else after my interview; the interviewer will fill out a quick "evaluation/form" and send it off to the school (at least that's how it was explained to me).BSC wrote:Had my interview yesterday; went just fine. I didn't send a thank you note or email either, though if I do get the big black box tomorrow and Vanderbilt isn't playing a cruel joke on me, I will definitely follow-up with my interviewer.
Not sure on timeline; if it helps, I did my interview the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week and just had my decision date yesterday (3 weeks). If that holds for you, I'd say end of the year, or early January you should hear back.
