I am just curious because someone said earlier NYU had no merit aid left (which is always a lie from any school) but I'm pretty sure a Dean's is a merit scholarship. That means they must have really needed your LSAT as well as Irish's.JamMasterJ wrote:It just says Dean's Scholarship. No mention of whether it was merit or need based. I have a very low income, so it could have been either, or a combination if the two.Mr. Somebody wrote:That's just awesome..... was that need based?

They could have used the rest of the "available" money with us and had nothing left for the other recent admits. They also could still have money without it being currently available.Mr. Somebody wrote:I am just curious because someone said earlier NYU had no merit aid left (which is always a lie from any school) but I'm pretty sure a Dean's is a merit scholarship. Hey Jam, did you already deposit and/or submit any financial aid forms or was the scholarship e-mail completely unsolicited ?

Although merit-aid will likely be available again as Harvard's WL is moving, and those who get into Harvard probably at least have some money here at NYU.

Need-based = myth
Just negotiate. There is a reason they picked you guys off the waitlist. They need your particular numbers/characteristics/something in order to get the class how they want it.

I'm gonna see if I can get my deadline pushed back, and then go to NY with my fiancee as soon as possible.

Got the NYU package in the mail. It is a bit underwhelming as there was not even a letter with it, nor really any directions of what to do next, etc.

I'd contact them immediately, because I really think their only gonna pull people that show significant interest ATMunicorny wrote:Aw, shucks. I missed the call from NYU because I'm out of the country and just checked my voicemail.

I just received a call from them! Is NYU majorly pulling from their waitlist? How long did it take for people to get their admission packet after the call?

Congrats! They do seem to be pulling a lot from the WL. Did you get an interest call first, or just a call saying you're in?jeninamillion wrote:I just received a call from them! Is NYU majorly pulling from their waitlist? How long did it take for people to get their admission packet after the call?

An interest call asking if I'm still interested and if there's anything getting in the way of accepting the offer of admission. I was super enthusiastic so hopefully I'll hear back soon.Killingly wrote:Congrats! They do seem to be pulling a lot from the WL. deans scholarship is not necessarily need-based, you need to submit the need access form to get any consideration for a scholarship at NYU

Buddy of mine just got the call. What percentage of people who've gotten the call have gotten in?

all but one or two IIRC. He's probably in unless he gave a less than enthusiastic response.Yeshia90 wrote:Buddy of mine just got the call. What percentage of people who've gotten the call have gotten in?

Just got in by phone!
Now to decide between Penn and NYU. Will lose $500 (seat deposit), $1700 (what I have already paid for my apartment), and a sense of security.
Any advice?

If biglaw, it's a tie and go by other factors (geography, environment, etc).
Also, wait to see if you get any $$ from NYU.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
