Wasn't that from Forbes best law schools to get rich article? I don't think Rutgers published that data. Besides isn't the school known for its pro bono philosphy?

Doesn't seem that farfetched

Not sure what the school's pro bono philosophy has to do with a Dean sending out allegedly misleading employment statistics. The fact of the matter is that she shouldn't be saying that "many" students are making over $130k if there are only a handful of students that reported making that much. According to your link, only ten students working in law firms with 100 or more attorneys reported salaries, and even the 75th percentile for the 5 students who reported salaries at firms with 500 or more attorneys is less than $130k ($127.5k).

Bottom line is that Rutgers has many great opportunities to offer to incoming students, but biglaw isn't one of them. At least not for 95% of the class. They need to highlight their strengths in state clerkships and less preftigious public interest positions.

130+ in the Philly market are firms 101+ or more. That's 4.9% of the 2010 graduating class of Rutgers-Camden.

You're an institution of higher learning and the standard bearers of a profession. It is unethical to "sell" what 4.9% of your graduates actually get (and what the rest mostly don't even come close to). What happens if your future students take at face value what you tell them? Do you care? No? Because "that's not what the email was designed to do?"

So Maryland has offered me a scholarship of $12,500 a year contingent upon me maintaining a 2.00 GPA or higher, so I might have to jump ship from Camden. Me being out of state that would work out to $22,522 a year for a total of $67,566 over the course of three years assuming I do not pick up any additional scholarships. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

You get in-state at Maryland, plus a hefty scholarship, better job prospects, and you want to be in Maryland anyways... I think it'd be absurd to go to Rutgers over UMD.

I get out of state at Maryland, I get in state at Rutgers. I'm leaning towards Maryland at the moment.

68k just in tuition for Maryland? What's your total COA at each school? And where are ya from?

By my fucked up math I figured that if I came out of Maryland making 10K more a year than the investment would pay for itself over the course of my career. Also Maryland has 30% placement in the private sector compared to Camden's 13% and ultimately I want to end up in the private sector because that's where the money is. I have until Monday to decide. I am still hoping that Maryland is going to come back to me with more money if I turn them down but IDK if that is realistic.

As an aside, I am taking an intro to logic course this summer just to kill my final credits for undergrad and shit goddamn I wish would have taken this class before I took the LSAT.

Retake it then and reapply. You may get a full-ride at UMD next year.

I don't think UMD really gives full rides. As a matter of fact, I'm fairly certain they suck with money.

Anyone know the move in date for 330 Cooper? I can't find it anywhere, I'm guessing because it is still under construction they will not release it for awhile. I'm just hoping it is sometime before the August 16th orientation because I don't want to be commuting from North Jersey to Camden every day for the 3-4 days.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the building will not be done in time. They're still in pretty heavy construction mode, but who knows, they might get things done really quickly.
