Re: West Virginia 2011
I was in review for somewhere around a month. Official letter and scholarship came in the mail about a week after status checker indicated acceptance.

I just received my admit letter in the mail today. Looked through the tread quickly, but does scholarship information always come with the admit letter? Mine just had a letter and the checklist? I was hoping for a little money but...

Most balling. You should check your status checker. It will tell you when/if your scholly letter was mailed. I think in general, if you have a ~157 + a 3.0 or better, you will get in.
If you applied late, you will just have to wait, but you will eventually get in. Applications are down across the board (thus timing isn't as much of an issue). WVU is also simply slow at processing apps - not worth an anxiety attack if you have good numbers.

Another week has passed and no response. When is this accepted student's luncheon that everyone was discussing earlier ITT?

I heard this on another board, how do you guys know that apps are down this year? If they are down, does this make the cycle harder or easier?BlazedBillyMaze wrote:Most balling. I have not heard from WVU specifically, but LSAC has noted that the applications overall are down. WVU may be an exception or outlier. I don't know the real stats.IHaveLawyers wrote:Subject: West Virginia 2011

Fewer Applications = easier admissions. If you have 4 people competing for 1 spot compared to 2 for 1, the odds are more in your favor. This is assuming that the applicants are relatively similar in quality.

Thats awesome! I thought more people would be applying because of the shitty employment prospects coming out of college.BlazedBillyMaze wrote:I have not heard from WVU specifically, but LSAC has noted that the applications overall are down. Did LSAC put out a statement? I can find the stats or more info on this on the interwebs?

Re: West Virginia 2011
Just saving the thread.
I applied on 2/18 but didn't go UR until 3/15 because I only sent 2 letters of rec. To be honest WVU was the only place that *required* 3 and I'm not in UG anymore so I couldn't easily get a 3rd to LSAC and processed in time. I'm a WV native and 171/3.4 from a top 10 school so my numbers are there, but I could see a YP rejection or rejection for not following the requirements. I've been thinking about staying close to home, although I know probably 20 people in the 1L class now that I went to high school with, so I would like the admit and would seriously consider WVU especially if they gave me $$$$. Who knows...

This killed me too. Took a long time to get my 3rd letter in and I was admitted w/o any scholarship money as an OOS student. Granted, I don't have your numbers, but I thought a 3.5/160 would get a little bit of money.descartesb4thehorse wrote:To be honest WVU was the only place that *required* 3 and I'm not in UG anymore so I couldn't easily get a 3rd to LSAC and processed in time.
Unfortunately I'm going to have to withdraw, but best of luck to everyone else.

Re: West Virginia 2011
It seems to be overly stringent criteria. There are reasons why top law schools require 1 or 2 but allow 3. Many of us think very hard about who will write our recs, make sure to get them in early, and usually thank the recommender in the form of a gift or handwritten note. This courtesy is often not possible for 3 recommenders, or at least it's a LOT more difficult to find a third person who knows your work very well. For instance, my 2 recs were from my thesis adviser and my boss for 2.5 years. If I tried to get a third, it would be from a professor who had given me an A, but probably already forgotten most of my work. I do understand that recs help the adcomms get a better picture of the candidates, but the third should definitely be optional.mpj_3050 wrote:This killed me too. Probably Arkansas-Fayetteville, but I plan on visiting both of the the school in Little Rock too. Ohio resident, looking to get out and go somewhere with tuition less than 15k.BlazedBillyMaze wrote:Where are you looking to attend now?mpj_3050 wrote:This killed me too. Visiting early next month, WVU looks like where I'm going to end up. Ironic because I was the biggest Noel Devine fan through undergrad and played football against Keith Tandy in high school. Who would've thought....

I heard west virginia had a 49% app increase since last year and thats why they have been so slow with responding to applications. They are also known for being slow with their admission decisions.

I have not had a decision back yet, went IR on 2/1, but I will be withdrawing my application soon. I heard back from my second choice today and am still waiting on my first choice. WVU is my third choice. I hope the small decrease in competition helps someone. 159/3.18 (3.41).

Just went IR today (3/24), complete since 3/15. Hoping that good stats/instate will help expedite my decision.

I would really like to know the answer to this question as well. I never filled out my FAFSA until March 13, and my admit letter is dated March 17. Not sure if that has any affect on scholarship money though.mpj_3050 wrote:I just received my admit letter in the mail today.
