Ok, it's been 4 weeks since I've been complete/submitted for review. Anyone have any idea how much longer I should expect to wait?

It should be very soon. I was just accepted a few days ago and my file had been complete just shy of 4 weeks also.
Good Luck!

Even if they are out of money now, they are about to get lots of money because many of their scholarship kids will go Tier 1. Sloppy seconds now has to be our goal.KCBUFF wrote:Did we get anymore confirmations on them not having anymore scholarship money?
I for one will take my sloppy seconds with pride.

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
Posted this elsewhere but it is more than relevant here:
I need to know how you Stetson students are doing. Have you found anything for summer? How are 2Ls and 3Ls looking?
I met a hiring attorney for ... (too drunk to remember firm, I know... I suck) and he told me that if he has a Stetson grad and a UF grad both applying, he has always chosen the Stetson grad. Of course this is IN Tampa (or surrounding areas) but the point is-- everyone I've met in Tampa or worked for goes on and on about how they prefer Stetson grads to UF or FSU. If this is true, then I imagine there should be some type of proof employment wise. Also, my new job is actually in a part of Tampa I wouldn't mind living. I'm sick of North Tampa and so help me I would NEVER live in South Tampa (sorry rad ) but there are apparently places I've never been that are really nice.

Good Morning Barbie:
Have you checked the the Peer Review Scores for Florida schools. FWIW Stetson scored 2.2/2.4 out of 5 Peers and Judges/Lawyers respectively and cited NA to question regarding % employment immediately after graduation. Do you or anyone know the validity of these ratings? FSU scored 2.8./ 2.8 .You can look up any schools ratings by googling Peer Reveiw Score for a specific school and all regional peer school data will also come up.

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
I'll be working for a prosecutor's office this summer.
I really don't know what everybody else is doing. I get the idea that some people have stuff lined up, some people are working hard at it, and some people haven't started looking yet.
As far as 2 & 3L's go, it's really hard to tell. I get the feeling that people in the top half of the class and who do trial team or law review have decent prospects. I know people who wanted to be prosecutors who got jobs, even though it has gotten more competitive. I believe the Pinellas County State Attorney's office only had 7% turnover last year, so that means that were able to hire 7 attorneys. They did say that it is picking up again, though.
Very few people are gonna get biglaw out of Stetson. Top 5% of the class will be competitive for it, but as some of you know, Florida doesn't have a lot of biglaw for a state its size. People end up in other firm jobs. I did speak with a 3L the other day at a party who said he was ranked near the bottom of his class, and he said he wouldn't be taking the bar. This is true at a lot of schools though.
Bottom line is this: If you do well, you will have solid prospects, and if you don't, you will not.

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
I got in but no mention of scholly. I have a 161 LSAT, undergrad gpa of 3.0, grad gpa of 3.6. My background is in engineering and from what I have heard, stetson is interested in building a stronger patent law program so I figured I would receive some money.
I have heard that the school is out of offers but I don't know if this is true. Can anyone tell me if this is true, and if it is will they send out offers when people withdraw?

Once admitted, you are given access to the Stetson Connect portal where there is a message that you can contact Darren Kettles if you want to know whether you are in the running for scholarship consideration.Gatorbull84 wrote:I got in but no mention of scholly. My status checker changed...but I'm not sure what it means. Before it said "File complete; Sumbitted for Review" as of 2/11/2011. Now under status it doesn't say anything except Term: Fall 2011, Program: FT, degree: JD. Does this mean they made a decision?

Did anyone apply for need-based aid? Did you put your application in with your initial application? Or wait until you were accepted?

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
First time in this thread but I have a 3.15 and 156 and I of course did not get a scholarship and love Stetson but am terrified of going to law school and coming out with 120k in debt!!!!
I recently talked with a lawyer who graduated from Mercer a couple years ago and she reassured me that it would be ok. Said she had the same amount of debt and makes close to 100k a year and so it is no problem. I'm scared as hell but hoping this is the right choice for me!

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
Well so far I don't have the choice of UF and probably won't have the choice of FSU. I just love that it is well thought of in Tampa/St. Pete, a place I wouldn't mind living at all. If I got into FSU, it'd be a hard decision but I grew up in Tally and don't know if I want to go back.

no matter how much i try to defend stetson someone is always quick to point out how it is subservient to fsu/uf. what are your thoughts pros and cons of each school. thanks

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
Meh, this is true, but quite overblown. Yes, UF, FSU, and Miami are all probably regarded as being better than Stetson. But, they are all middling themselves. It's not a situation where there is a T14 or a T30 in the state and then everybody else. While I do feel like UF is the clear favorite in this state, I really don't feel like FSU and Miami have much of a leg up on Stetson.drummerboy wrote:no matter how much i try to defend stetson someone is always quick to point out how it is subservient to fsu/uf. what are your thoughts pros and cons of each school. thanks
Now, if you have in state tuition at UF or FSU and it is cheaper for you to go there, by all means please go there. But if you have a full ride or close from Stetson and it ends up being cheaper than either of those, then it's definitely something to think about. Bottom line, I would go with the cheapest option among the four, but also weighing in your decision that the other three are a bit more highly regarded (again especially UF), and taking into account where you would like to live, your feel for the school, etc.

Re: Stetson 2011 Applicants
thanks. im just afraid of potentially more limited job prospects of stetson. i have no problem practicing in tampa st pete orlando area. so it would seem like it wouldnt matter where i went, but ibeleive the stats indicate that uf/fsu/miami places better throughout fl including central fl. what are your thoughts
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
